I miss John Candy, the comedian

I was just watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles again (lost count at this point). I friggin' LOVE that movie. I started thinking about the fact this friggin' world gets more unfunny by the day, and we NEED comical geniuses like Mr. Candy to make this world more bearable, but in the past 10 years, we have lost so many great actors, musicians, and comedians. Saturday Night Live alone gave us Phil Hartman, John Belushi, Chris Farley, writer MICHAEL O'DONOGHUE,Danitra Vance, Andy Kaufman, and Gilda Radner.

Of course, that's not even mentioning the late great Sam Kinison.

Anyway, back to John Candy. I was a fan of John Candy all the way back to the Second City days in Chicago with Flaherty and all the rest of the crew.

One thing I wish was that John Candy had been given the chance to do some dramatic, non-comedic rolls. Many of his films had him playing this loud, boisterous, funny character, but at some point, it called for him to emote, to show that the clown has tears as well. He was excellent. I think that he would have made a great dramatic actor, but alas, John was taken from us far too young.

Anyway, in rememberance, John, thank you for the laughs, the tears, and your spirit. RIP bro.

We bought a house in October 2000. Financed it through First Security. One month after closing I recieved notice that Wells Fargo and First Security Merged and that we were to make payments to Wells Fargo. So we did at the local branch because we had not received a coupon book from them yet.

By Febuary 2001, we were getting a little worried having not recieved anything from Wells Fargo concerning our loan, not even a monthly statement. So we called them. We were told that we didn't have to make a payment until December 2001. Of course we didn't believe that and pursued it further. Which is when they determined that our mortgage was sold to Idaho Housing. And we were to pay Idaho Housing.

So we did. We were given a loan number For Idaho Housing and an address to send our payments to. After not recieving anything from Idaho Housing by June 2001 I wrote them a letter.

I recieved a quick response from them stating Wells Fargo held our mortgage and they would forward all of the payments we made to them back to Wells Fargo. Two days later we recieved a letter from Wells Fargo stating that they had sold our mortgage to Idaho Housing and would forward all of our payments to them. Does anyone else see a problem with this?

So, we contacted both places and it was determined that Wells Fargo held our mortgage and it was just a big misunderstanding. So we continued to make payments to Wells Fargo.

Keep in mind this entire time we have not received a coupon book or a single monthly statement from Wells Fargo with each person we spoke with saying they were requesting a statement to be mailed to us right away.

In September 2001 we recieved a letter from Wells Fargo stating that they were staring Foreclosure Proceedings on our house because we had not made any payments to them. This was received the day before we were to leave for vacation.

We postponed our vacation. We went straight to the local branch with all of our paperwork and all of our cancelled checks to prove we made all of our payments. The branch manager did help us, the first person to care from Wells Fargo. (or maybe she just cared because we refused to leave until this was straightened out.)

We were told they had to restructure our loan. And again that they were mailing us a monthly statement and a coupon book. This being our first mortgage we were really lost and had no one to trust but Wells Fargo. Big mistake.

So, we continued to make our payments and call them every month for a monthly statment and a coupon book only to not recieve them. By December 2001 we were told we were a payment behind. (We were only told this because of our phone calls, we were never notified by mail.) Again we faxed every cancelled check we had ever written to them and again they said it was a mistake and it was taken care of along with the coupon book and the monthly statements.

We requested the research team to figure out our loan and send us documentation showing how each payment we made affected our mortgage. Which we recieved in about two months. And here's the kicker, the paperwork they sent us was for someone elses Mortgage in Mississippi!!! And they just didn't understand why I was so upset. Needless to say we never recieved the paperwork we were after even after I had one rep say she was personally mailing the paperwork while I was on the phone.

This all happened again in January 2002.

At this point both of us had lost our jobs and a lot of personal things happened. Needless to say we were unable to keep our house. So we worked with Wells Fargo so that we could do a short sale on our house. We felt this was the best choice for us.

From Febuary until June 2002 we did not make a payment nor did we receive anything from Wells Fargo showing that we had not made payments. In June 2002 we got an offer on our house. Wells Fargo excepted with hesitation (because they thought the house should have been foreclosed on already). (I thought it was there fault for not foreclosing as we had no control over what they do.)

On July 25, 2002 we sold our house and signed the papers. We were told by Wells Fargo the title company would issue the 1099 tax forms that we needed. Which they did. However, Wells Fargo did not send us anything about our mortgage.

I had checked my credit and the mortgage is still on my credit. Which I didn't feel like dealing with Wells Fargo ever again so I let it go, unitl now. September 2003.

I have made several phone calls to Wells Fargo to get this mess straitened out only to be passed off to the next person.

I have been told that they have no record of us selling our house, that our credit is correct because it was a short sale (but our credit still shows that we owe a monthly payment and we owe the full amount of our mortgage.) I was told that the short sale is complete when we recieve 1099C forms from them, (it's been over a year, I think we should have gotten them by now) but no one at Wells Fargo seems to know who sends out the 1099C forms and most of them dodn't even know what that is.

The person that handled the short sale will not return my phone calls nor will her supervisor. I wrote a letter to them stating my current problem. No response.

They have also said that there was a problem with the check to pay off the mortgage and so the short sale is not complete because we still owe them late fees.

However, when the other person who was on this mortgage called them, after they told me everything was taken care of, they told him that the house was foreclosed on with the proceedings starting in August 2002 and completed September 3, 2003.

This bank is so messed up. No one knows anything, nor do they care to figure anything out. It has been almost 3 years since we started this and to date I have never recieved a monthly statement, a coupon book, documentation that the house was foreclosed on (as they think it was), documentation showing that the short sale was completed, or that there is a problem with the short sale, or the tax forms needed to file last years taxes.

This is not even half of what we've dealt with from them, this is only the highlights.

My advice to everyone: NEVER GET A MORTGAGE THROUGH WELLS FARGO!!!

If anyone has any advice, please feel free to put your two cents in. I don't know what else to do.

Sounds similar to many accounts like this.

Wells Fargo charges fees on top of fees

"Well's Farge
Address:
Nationwide, U.S.A.
Phone Number:

I have had a checking account with wells fargo for a number of years. I loved the account, and the bank until the merger with Norwest. I dont have much money in my account, because I am a poor college student. I keep very good track of my records, and know exactly how much money I have in my account. Well, I went to pump gas one day. I was exactly one day before my check would be deposited into my account, so I thought that it would be safe to buy gas. I had $5.00 in my account. I did not stop the nozzle in time, so I got $5.01 in gas. Guess what? I got charged $25 for going below zero. Pretty expensive mistake. So I live off of Top Ramen, and penut butter and jelly for about a week.
Next, it is time to pay rent. Well, my land lord is understanding, and promises not to cash my post-dated check until Friday when I get payed. Well, his wife did not know, and cashed the check, so it bounced. My manager called Wells Fargo's 1-800 number, and they told my manager to have me go into a nearby branch, and the manager would clear it. WRONG!! not only did the manager refuse to clear it, he insulted me personally. He said that I was an irresponsible college student, and that post-dating checks is a felony. He told me that he could have me arrested on the spot, and pull my checking account with any money that was in it. (by this time, I did have money in it.) He also said that bank fees were so high because of irresponsible people like me. Well, i fumed out of there promising myself that I would never set foot in there again. I was out another $25.

The THIRD thing that happened was when my car got broken into. It was the only time in my life that I left my wallet in the car, and it got stolen. I reported my card stolen, but guess what? There were cahrges on my card that I DID NOT make. It brought my account below zero again, and i got charged another $25. I called the bank, and they told me that I had to talk to the companies that the card was used at. I had to let them know that a stolen credit card was used at thier company, and THEY had to report it to Well's Fargo. That was BS. Well, another $25 lost, and this time, i didnt even have penut butter and jelly. I had to eat just Top Ramen. (I moved out to college with a life time supply of Top Ramen)

At this time, I am extreemly angry, because not only did they take $75 form me, but they were causing me not to have food to eat to. Then they pulled the lowest stunt of all. I quit my job, and got another, higher paying job. I have to have direct deposit in order for my checking account to be free. Well, as all of you know, at the new job, it would probably take some time to process a request for direct depost. Well, I had $4.75 in my account. Feb 1, 2000 they charged me $6 because I did not have a check directly deposited. Then they charged me an additional $25 for an overdraft fee. I called again and made a HUGE deal when they refused to refund me again. I told them that I refused to bank with thieves, and about all of the ridiculous ripp offs (there had been a few others to) the supervisor told me that they refused to deal with irate, lying coustomers. That was way to much so I promised that I would close the account the next day. and tell every soul on earth about thier horrible business. He said "You do just that" so I hung up.

So I just want to let you all know, because I know that I am not the only one experiencing these problems. They have horrible coustomer service, and they are huge thieves. Do not bank with them at all ."

I have heard and read story after story about this deal with Wells Fargo. PLEASE DO NOT BANK WITH THEM!

Wells Fargo Bank: The Worst Bank in the World!!!

Following with the previous posts...the site(s) of the afternoon will follow this theme.

" December 30th, 2000
Wells Fargo Bank: In my opinion they must be the Single WORST BANK IN THE WORLD!!!!

Please please please if you are using Wells Fargo. Please switch banks. Do not reward this bank with your patronage. You're only helping an evil empire. Please get out now.

I've been with Wells Fargo bank for 9 years now and I can safely say that nobody in their right mind would bank with them. They are an atrocious bank. Completely and utterly incompetent. I don't understand how they've gotten to the position they are in being this bad. It seems nearly impossible to contemplate."

WELLS FARGO SUCKS!

I've had an account with Wells Fargo for about 10 years or more at this point, and in the past, had a problem that led me to threatening a lawsuit, just to get a refund of money that I lost due to the malfunction of their online banking system. I won the case, and was indeed prepared to battle Marty Feinstein and the whole crooked bunch in court, but they agreed to my demands.

Well, not to go into it, but today, I had a phone interaction with someone representing that they were with Wells Fargo. Well, bottom line is, Wells Fargo is a horrible bank and before very long, I will be moving all my accounts to another bank....

In this election year, the phrase "Anyone But Bush"...and since Wells Fargo has supported Bush in the past, I say we have a dual motto.
"Anyone but Bush, Any Bank Besides Wells Fargo" !

If you are thinking of opening an account with them...stop, take a deep breath, grab a brick, count to 100, and if you are still conscious, knock yourself out with the brick!

Do I have this RIGHT?

OK...here's the line as I understand it...
1) Bush says we did right to invade Iraq even though all that WND was just so much bullsh*t.

2) The administration says keep up in office because if you don't , the Boogieman (aka Al Qaeda) will get you.

3) You have to give up some liberties and rights in exchange for a little safety (reference the Ben Franklin quote in opposition to this).

4) The more outsourcing that goes on, the better.

5) The higher the jobless rate, and the higher the unemployment rate, the better the indication of a strong and recovering economy.

6) He refuses to talk about Skull and Bones.

7) He refuses to talk about Bohemian Grove/

8) His military records have been "accidentally destroyed" and no backups can be found.

9) He says "bring it on" sitting behind many layers of personal security, and the gov didn't even supply all the soldiers with body armor.

10) He refuses to discuss his relationship with Ken Lay.

11) He refuses to discuss his relationship with the Bin Laden family and their funding of Arbusto oil.

12) We don't want a booming economy (he said this...we don't want a "boom"...we want "steady growth" (steady growth indicates a malignancy at times).

13) So, to wrap up what they are saying in essence....

Loss of jobs...good.
Loss of freedoms...good.
Loss of liberties..good.
Loss of soldiers' lives...acceptable.
Not letting soldiers come home- good.
Not putting his daughters in the service...good.
Loss of privacy...good.
Having people in constant fear as a result of
threat color levels staying above green... good.

Yeah, I think I have the idea now.

IS Tony Blair on his way OUT?

Spies on attack as Blair fights for his survival
http://www.sundayherald.com/43342
"Brown waits in wings as PM faces toughest week
By James Cusick, Westminster Editor

The private war between Tony Blair and Gordon Brown will reach its public climax this week as the Prime Minister battles to survive the criticisms of the Butler Inquiry and two by-elections that threaten his hold on the Labour leadership.
Even before facing these tough hurdles, Blair will tonight be accused of misleading MPs and the Hutton Inquiry. The accusations – which highlight a serious attempt to manipulate and politicise intelligence on Iraq – will be shown in a BBC Panorama programme.

In the crucial pre-war Commons debate on Iraq, Blair said that the threat from Iraq was serious and current. John Morrison, the former deputy chief of the Defence Intelligence Staff (DIS, part of the Ministry of Defence) says he “could almost hear the collective raspberry going up around Whitehall” when Blair made his comments.

Morrison also said Blair’s public statements on Iraq, prior to the war, went beyond what professional analysts would have concluded from the evidence.

Dr Brian Jones, a retired branch head at the DIS, also claims the Prime Minister misled the Hutton Inquiry into the death of weapons expert David Kelly. Jones said he could not relate to the account given to Hutton by Blair, who told of the “tremendous amount” of information about Saddam’s WMD arsenal that had crossed his desk. Jones said: “No-one on my staff had any visibility of large quantities of intelligence of that sort.”

Damage to Blair’s tough leadership image was inflicted yesterday by suggestions that four cabinet ministers – John Reid, Charles Clarke, Tessa Jowell and Patricia Hewitt – had been so concerned that he was about to quit that they successfully urged him to stay. If these attacks on Blair’s integrity and leadership stamina combine with devastating by- election defeats on Thursday, Gordon Brown’s supporters will press him to begin an immediate campaign to replace Blair ."

But HEY, that's ok...because King George the W says OUR economy is doing great!

Bush's Mona Lisa Smile

Have you watched, Bush speaking?

Today, he is trying to defend this debacle of invading Iraq.

He punctuates his sentences with this creepy little smile, no matter what he has just said. He could say how awful the deaths in Iraq are, and ends it with that creepy smile.

This guy is just plain creepy AND inappropriate.

**UPDATED! Burger flippers = manufacturing jobs

"Sure, the Big Mac may stay in your stomach for a week - but is it a durable good???

Oh yeah - I forgot, they're not French fries any more, they're Freedom Fries!

Seriously, don't we all agree that a world of opportunity awaits in high growth manufacturing careers like spatula operator, napkin restocking, and lunch tray removal?

My guess: Mayor McCheese has been appointed as the new Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing

While I'm at it, I just thought I'd mention a couple of interesting reports recently published regarding what I consider an even bigger problem: Outsourcing of technical jobs! These 'knowledge jobs' are being sent off shore faster than manufacturing jobs.

What are the unemployed computer engineers and information technology workers supposed to retrain for? What high value-added job can't be outsourced?

Many young engineering graduates have discovered that they invested in acquiring skills for which there are no jobs and are headed to law schools in an effort to retrieve their future. I know young software engineers who are substitute teachers in middle schools, and others who are trying to organize rock bands to play the club and bar circuits, all to pay the bills after their unemployment checks ran out.

They have no idea what to retrain for, and neither do the economists who tell them retraining is the answer.

Anyway, here's the stats:

- Economists at UC Berkeley say as many as 14 million programming, accounting, paralegal, and other service jobs will be 'offshored'.
- A November 2002 Forrester Research study estimated that over the next 15 years some 3.3 million US service sector jobs would be sent abroad.

FYI: Burger flippers and Fry cooks don't. Flip burgers or cook fries anymore, that is. Fries are cooked by robots and the burgers are just 'warmed up'

Good cartoon inside too! (Rest of story is below the cartoon)

UPDATE: DELL admits to more than 1/2 its workforce overseas!

Majority of Dell workers overseas

No. 2 computer manufacturer says it employs 24,000 workers overseas and 22,000 in the U.S.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dell Inc., the world's No. 2 personal computer manufacturer, said Monday most of its employees are based outside the United States as the company expands in overseas markets.

Round Rock, Texas-based Dell, which derived about 36 percent of its fiscal 2004 net revenue from international sales, said in its annual report that at the end of January, about 24,000 of its 46,000 workers were overseas while 22,200 were based in the U.S.

The company recently set up technical and customer support operations in India, Panama, Slovakia, Morocco and China and intended to continue to expand internationally, it said in the report, which was filed at the Securities and Exchange Commission.

It also has design centers in China and Taiwan."
===============SNIP===============

But hey, wait, King George the W says all is well here...things are great :)....How shall we resolve this conundrum?
Could King George the W be LYING to us?

Recovery masks trouble

"Reports increasingly cheer the economic recovery. Gross domestic product is growing at a healthy rate; corporate profits are up; the Dow Jones is consistently hovering near 10,000; and payrolls, finally, are increasing. Talk to the Bush administration and most CEOs and you'll get a rosy picture of the U.S. economy.

Talk to typical workers, though, and the view changes significantly. Sure, the jobs are coming back -- but they're not as good as the jobs that were lost, and there are still fewer Americans working today than there were four years ago. And no matter how fast and how smart they work, workers' paychecks keep shrinking.

It is time for the president and Congress to see things the way these workers see them.

The Economic Policy Institute has shown that the fastest-growing industries are low-wage ones, like hotel and food services, while shrinking industries are high-wage ones, like information services and manufacturing. And during the past few months, across the board, real wages actually have declined. In fact, wages have proved more sluggish in the last six consecutive months than in any other comparable period on record.

That's because we're living in an economy where the forces that should benefit average workers are overwhelmed by policies and practices that benefit corporations and the wealthy, like trillion-dollar tax cuts.

In this difficult era of globalization, the Bush administration sees no need to stand up for average employees. Now both the departments of commerce and labor do the bidding of big business.

The administration has either ignored or offered inadequate solutions to the growing crises in access to healthcare and retirement security; promulgated new regulations that threaten workers' hard-earned right to overtime pay; failed to extend unemployment benefits to workers who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own; and refused to raise the minimum wage. In other ways both large and small, the Bush administration has put a tight squeeze on the American middle class.

It's easy to see the effect of an economy where workers have trouble meeting their families' needs. Since the beginning of the 2001 recession, corporate profits have expanded by an astonishing 57.5 percent. Meanwhile, total wages and salaries have shrunk by 1.7 percent.

This exorbitant disparity is a new development. The Economic Policy Institute looked at the average trends over each of the last eight economic recoveries and found that profits grew by 13.8 percent, while wages and salaries grew by 6.3 percent."

But hey, according to King George the W., the economy is doing great and recovery is underway. LOL..Bush is full of Bullshit!

Rural areas hit hard by loss of industries

"Sunday, July 11, 2004
MIKE CASON
News staff writer
FAYETTE - Willie Earl Sparks found opportunity when he graduated from high school in 1965, even in his small hometown in northwest Alabama.

Work was plentiful in Fayette. Before that summer was over, Sparks landed a job welding mufflers and tailpipes for Arvin Industries. He got married that December. His wife, Betty Sparks, found work as a spinner at Fayette Cotton Mill in 1969.

They kept their jobs more than three decades. But in the past three years, both plants have closed, part of a trend of vanishing jobs in rural Alabama.

"Fayette is not near the city it was," Willie Earl Sparks said. "People are having to leave here to go to work."

Betty Sparks was laid off from the mill in October. "It's pretty bad, knowing you're going to bed and ain't got nothing to look forward to but an unemployment check," she said.

Fayette is not alone. Alabama towns that for decades depended on textiles and manufacturing industries are hurting.

For much of the 20th century, rural Alabama attracted textiles and other industries mostly with cheap but productive labor, cheap land and low taxes, said Larry Lee, former head of economic development in Fayette County. Lee co-wrote "Beyond the Interstate: The Crisis in Rural Alabama" in 2002 with Joe Sumners, director of the Economic Development Institute at Auburn University. Lee said the state is losing jobs to other nations that offer the same attractions - cheap land and labor.

"We did to New England what the rest of the world is now doing to us," Lee said.

Since 1995, 38 of the state's 55 most rural counties have experienced a net decline in nonagricultural employment, according to the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations.

All six of the rural counties that adjoin Tuscaloosa County have experienced a net decline in employment since 1995 despite having the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance. The total number of people who are working in nonagricultural jobs has dropped 10 percent in Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Pickens and Walker counties."

Hmmmm....but, uh, well..oh,ummm, this is GREAT NEWS because it means the economy is doing great...right King George the W. , who says our economy is "strong".

Latino jobless rate increases

"WASHINGTON -- The unemployment rate for Latinos jumped to 7.3 percent in January, reversing a decline over the second half of 2003, according to a private analysis of government data."
==========SNIP===================
If you read my earlier posts, you see that more people out of work, according to the mass media and government way of looking
at things, is GREAT NEWS...it means the economy is recovering and on a steady growth trend.

It's more and more bizarre. As I look at state after state and see the jobless and unemployment rates getting higher....mass media and the government actually says this means an economic recovery is going on.

Sanity, where the F is sanity?

State jobless rate increases to 5.8 percent

"COLUMBUS -- The state's unemployment rate was five-point-eight percent in April, up from five-point-seven percent in March."
=========SNIP=====================
OK...if we apply the prevailing King George the W's "Newthink"
and "Newspeak"...rising unemployment and rising job rate is now GOOD news for Ohio...the more people there are that are out of work, the better the economy. Good news Ohio, with that increasing unemployment rate you will all be billionaires soon!

Weekly jobless claims rise slightly

"Data suggest labor market still in recovery modeThe Associated Press
Updated: 8:48 a.m. ET July 01, 2004WASHINGTON - The number of new people signing up for jobless benefits rose slightly last week, although the overall pace of recent applications suggests the labor market remains in recovery."
===================SNIP===================

I am seeing this same trend in article after article.
They are ACTUALLY saying this across the country, and honest to gosh, it BOGGLES my MIND!

They are saying that, the fact that the jobless rates increase, that it means the economy is recovering. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess with that reasoning, if your bank account and pockets are empty, you are a billionaire.

We have OFFICICALLY moved into the time of NEWSPEAK where everything is opposite, even logic now is ass backward.

Michigan's March Jobless Rate Increases

That headline is from April 14, 2004.
But, hey, that's ok, because the economy is doing GREAT according to King George the W.

TEXAS IS THE "WINNER" IN JOB LOSSES

"In response to yesterday's question about job losses under Bush Jr.: That’s right – Texas has had a higher job loss per capita than California.

Another round of jobs losses to hit Danville, Va.

"FARMVILLE, N.C. - Tobacco processor DIMON Inc. will close its Danville, Va., production plant and eliminate 510 jobs as tobacco sales continue to dwindle.

The company will consolidate its operations in Farmville, adding 100 to 150 jobs, DIMON officials told The Farmville Enterprise. They will primarily be hourly production-level positions, according to Don Hare, senior vice president for human resources in Danville.

The Virginia plant is expected to close in March 2005, taking away 450 hourly and 60 salaried positions, Hare said.

DIMON announced the plant closure earlier this month."

Phoenix-area jobs in jeopardy

"Jane Larson
The Arizona Republic

Cheaper to do business here than in California? Sure.

Cheaper to do business here than India or other international sites? Not exactly.

Metro Phoenix appears more vulnerable to jobs moving offshore than much of the nation because of its base of office support work and high number of computer professionals.

By the numbers
Indian workers on average are paid only one-fourth what U.S. workers earn in the same type of job, according to the National Association of Software and Services Companies.

Quotes
"I would like to say I'd keep American jobs. But if it came down to my business succeeding or not, I'd look for some kind of balance. It really comes down to how socially responsible you want to be."
- Carol Martin, laid-off Motorola business analyst studying to become a nurse

"We need to look in the mirror. We can't simply say, 'I deserve to be paid higher because I was born in the U.S.' Now the competition is global."
- Buck Pei, associate dean for Asian Pacific programs at Arizona State University's W.P. Carey School of Business

"It's had a significant downward pressure on wages. I don't think it's the major culprit (of wage stagnation), but it's a significant factor."
- Robert Scott, an economist with the Economic Policy Institute in Washington

"Some of it is necessary. But they've overdone the downsizing locally and cut out innovation, which you need to get the next product into the pipeline."
- Bill Austin, a laid-off Motorola engineer who recently took a job as a sales manager for a start-up magazine

"Phoenix has been a back office to California, and it's back-office jobs that are pretty vulnerable," said Cynthia Kroll, senior regional economist at the University of California-Berkeley.

A job lost means pain, upheaval and a period of readjustment, often at a lower salary.

Carol Martin has traded a Motorola analyst job for nursing school, and trips to a hair salon have turned into visits to a franchise haircutter. After two years looking for work, Denise Finn took a job with a contractor doing business for American Express, her former employer - at a 30 percent pay cut.

Almost 230,000 metro Phoenix jobs ranging from payroll clerk to computer programmer theoretically could be done overseas, though only 23,000, or one-tenth of them, are likely to move offshore in the coming years, according to the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and researchers at UC-Berkeley.

The loss of jobs in Arizona and the rest of America has put workers on edge and corporations on the defensive, and it has become a highly charged topic in the presidential election. Economists warn that our increasingly global economy is in the midst of an uncertain transition, and even if the United States prospers in the long run, inevitably some workers and industries will lose along the way."

Hey, but don't worry, the economy is doing great!
We've got "steady growth" per Bush....
"Steady growth" implies malignancy.

Is the Real Slim Cheney, SCARY?

OK...I haven't touched this topic, but I kept seeing this notion come up, and hearing people say this to me, so I had to finally talk about it.

From the above link we find this:
"Is Dick Cheney Scary On Purpose?

WASHINGTON, Feb. 20, 2004

Does Cheney have an image problem, as some say, or is he projecting the very message the Bush team wants? Above: the veep at a Kansas fundraiser, one of many he's appeared at for the GOP. (Photo: AP)

Cheney is a full-fledged evildoer to many Democrats and Bush-haters. He is problematic for GOP strategists. But he is deeply supported by many Republicans who see him as the most reliable and influential guardian of the conservative torch.

Sinister. That word keeps cropping up in descriptions of Dick Cheney's public countenance.

I don't quite understand how or why this came to pass. But I'm now suspicious that it's a plot. Maybe the image wizards at the White House figured out that in post-9/11 America, having a dark, secretive, powerful sorcerer behind the throne was the perfect tactic to create awe and obedience amongst us Muggles.

After all, Dick Cheney didn't used to be Dr. Strangelove."

Well, I don't know if he used to be Dr. Strangelove, but that whole bunker thing where he goes to hide, is not only reminiscent of Dr. Strangelove, but let's face it, it's creepy and looking at him, HE's CREEEPY looking.

I mean, you've got this guy who was, for a while, allegedly having friggin' heart attacks everytime you turn around, and now he prances around more hale and hearty than the "Tall Man" in the Phantasm movie.

To me, he looks like an evil (or more evil) Bob Hope...he has that weird Bob Hope sneer thing working for him. His outside and his inner views are apparently scary and creepy too.

"WASHINGTON One thing you've got to say for Dick Cheney: No one will ever again dismiss the vice presidency as a pitcher of warm spit.
.
Mr. Major League Potty Mouth has shown that, with obsequiousness to the president and obtuseness to the facts, a vice president can run the world. Right into the ground.
.
This week, it's not just Democrats who are questioning whether Vice is losing it.
.
Now, even some in the White House are saying it's bizarre that he chose a class photo-op on the Senate floor to suggest that Senator Patrick Leahy do something that you won't even find described in Bill Clinton's "My Life."
.
While Democratic lawmakers delayed final passage of a defense spending bill so they could mingle with Michael Moore, the once sweat-free Bushies were acting jangly.
.
First Vice chewed out The New York Times for accurately reporting that the 9/11 commission said there was no collaborative relationship between Saddam and Al Qaeda. Then Paul Wolfowitz called the reporters risking their lives in Iraq craven rumormongers. Then came Cheney's F-word. (Not Fox, the other one.)
.
Finally, President George W. Bush got agitated when an Irish TV interviewer said most of the Irish found the world more dangerous now than before the Iraq invasion. "First of all, most of Europe supported the decision in Iraq," Bush declared. (It's all in how you define "Europe.")
.
Even as Tom Daschle proposed bipartisan family retreats to heal the harsh mood, even as the Senate passed the "Defense of Decency Act," Cheney profanely laced into Leahy for criticizing Halliburton's getting no-bid contracts.
.
"I felt better afterwards," he told Neil Cavuto during a no-bid interview with Fox News. Hey, if it feels good, Dick, do it.
.
He said he had no regrets about his "little floor debate in the United States Senate." He didn't want to go along with Leahy's attitude that "everything's peaches and cream" when the Democrat had just been jawing about Halliburton war profiteering. Peaches and cream have never been on the Bush-Cheney menu, only brimstone and gall.
.
By playing on the insecurities of an inexperienced leader, Cheney has managed to change W. from a sunny, open, bipartisan, uniter-not-a-divider, non-nation-builder into a crabby, secretive, partisan, divider-not-a-uniter, inept imperialist. Vice is bounding around the country, talking to his usual circumscribed audiences of conservatives, rightist think tanks and Fox News anchors. No need to burrow in the bunker when you've turned America into one.
.
As they used to say about the Soviet Union, the defensive Bush imperialists have to keep expanding because they're encircled. Cheney's gloomy, scary, contentious worldview has fueled a more gloomy, scary, contentious world.
.
After disastrously dividing the world into the strong (Bush hawks) and the weak (everyone else), Vice turned his coarseness into another macho, tough-guy moment against a Democrat considered a pill by many Republicans. "I think a lot of my colleagues felt that what I had said badly needed to be said, that it was long overdue," he preened.
.
The conservatives defending Cheney are largely the same crowd that went off the deep end because of a glimpse of breast on the Super Bowl, demanding everything from fines to new regulations to protect red states from blue language.
.
Cheney's outburst was not as bad as his reasoning. On Fox, he again belabored his obsession with "links" between Iraq and Al Qaeda. Exhibiting WASP chutzpah, this time he used The Times to bolster his faux case.
.
But the Thom Shanker story he cited said only that in the mid-1990's, Iraq agreed to rebroadcast anti-Saudi propaganda and that a request from Osama "to begin joint operations against foreign forces in Saudi Arabia went unanswered."
.
Rebroadcast anti-Saudi propaganda? As a threat to U.S. security, that's right up there with Iraqi "weapons of mass destruction-related program activities."
.
Cheney assured Fox's anxious viewers that he would stay on the ticket and in the White House until January '09. (No four letter words, dear Democrats.) Vice said of W., "he knows I'm there to serve him."
.
Bush must have missed that classic "Twilight Zone" episode where the aliens arrive with a book entitled, "To Serve Man." It turns out to be a cookbook.

So, is he cultivating a "scary image"? If you do a search on Google, you find lots of articles remarking on his "scary" image. I don't think scary is the word I would use. Physically, he's an old man with, supposedly,
cardiac challenges. No, I would prefer to say he appears "creepy" and "evil"...but, I guess that's scary to have someone like that a heartbeat away from the presidency.

How many times do you have to tell a lie before it becomes true?

The head of the RNC was on CSpan, just letting prevarication take him over like a loa takes over a supplicant during a voodoo ritual.

It's like the little girl from the Exorcist puts on a suit and tie
and appears on C-Span. I watched Ed Gillespie, head of the RNC sit there on C-Span, and honest to gosh, his already elongated probosis, appeared to be growing longer and longer as he talked.

Like some modern day Pinnochio, Ed was just spouting those bizarre statements about the economy getting better, and to me,
it looked like the tip of his beak was betting closer and closer and closer to the interviewer/moderator.

Let's see...here's my take on it....
I could say...the sky is purple over and over and over...and print it in the media, put it on tv and radio,...and you know what? It would still be a lie.

The repubs and their friends in the media, keep rambling and oozing what I see as prevarications about great jobs.

Hey...you're an average person right?
How is the job situation where you live? Are there lots of high paying jobs opening up around you...are people better off?

I cannot speak for everyone, everywhere in this country, but I talk to people in various states and they all say the same....they are more and more afraid of losing their jobs, they are miserable in the job they have, and living is getting more and more expensive.

The administration cannot make a lie the truth any more after they say it 100,000 times, than when they tell it the first time.

A lie is a lie is a lie.
Saying it louder and longer and more often, just makes you a bigger liar.

Cheney's Wife Splits With Administration on Gay Marriage Question

"

Lynne Cheney, the vice president's wife and mother of a lesbian, said Sunday that states should have the final say over the legal status of personal relationships.
That stand puts her at odds with the vice president on the need for the constitutional amendment now under debate in the Senate that effectively would ban gay marriage.

"I think that the constitutional amendment discussion will give us an opportunity to look for ways to discuss ways in which we can keep the authority of the states intact," Cheney told CNN's "Late Edition."

The Senate began debate Friday on an amendment that defines marriage as a union of a man and woman as husband and wife."

Soooo, even "the Real Slim Cheney's wife" sees how retarded his stand is and says so. I think the Real Slim Cheney should go hide back in that bunker under Raven's rock....

Blunt Memo Shows How Lobbyists Think

*** MY NOTE ***
FOLKS....PLEASE READ HTTP://WWW.CAPITOLHILLBLUE.COM DAILY !
This is an EXCELLENT SITE.
OK..here's the story.
"
A lobbying strategy memo that describes targeted senators in unusually disparaging terms was inadvertently sent to news reporters last week by an industry supported think tank opposed to legislation to combat global warming.

The memo describes Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., as "our leading internationalist (who) wants to send even more manufacturing jobs in Indiana overseas so that important diplomats at UN receptions will be nice to him."

Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., "hates Bush" and "is increasingly frail," the memo said. Tim Johnson, D-S.D., another targeted senator, probably will not change his vote, the memo says, "but it's fun to see him squirm back home." Other senators are described in similarly negative fashion.

Myron Ebell, head of the climate section at the Competitive Enterprise Institute and a prominent figure in public policy debates over global warming, acknowledged that he inadvertently sent "three or four reporters" a memo outlining the lobbying strategy of opponents to the bipartisan global-warming bill.

"I was sort of careless," Ebell said in response to a call from Scripps Howard News Service. "I'm always blunt. Anything I produce I'm not ashamed of having publicized."

The bill outlines a lobbying strategy, including a list of targeted senators and talking points for defeating a bill sponsored by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn. The bill is aimed at curbing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions.

The bill was defeated in the Senate last fall, but garnered more votes than generally expected. McCain has said he hopes to get another vote on the bill, possibly this week.

"It is not clear at all that he (McCain) will get more votes than the 43 Senators who voted in favor last October 30th. But we need to work to make sure," Ebell wrote in the memo.

"On the other side, the environmentalists are working this vote very hard and spending lots of money that our side doesn't have. They are trying to flood offices with phone calls."

Targeted senators identified in the memo include:

Evan Bayh, D-Ind., who "voted yes because Lugar voted yes . . . As Governor, Bayh helped a once economically buoyant State become a laggard, so why wouldn't he want Indiana to keep declining."
Peter Fitzgerald, R-Ill., "who voted no last time. Fitzgerald leans Green and is retiring, which always encourages irresponsibility. So he needs shoring up."
Arlen Specter, R-Pa., who "likes to surprise us, although seldom in the right way."
The Competitive Enterprise Institute has received nearly $1.5 million in donations since 1998 from ExxonMobil, the world's largest oil company, according to a recent report by the environmental group Greenpeace.

Ebell confirmed in an interview that ExxonMobil contributes about $200,000 to $400,000 a year to the climate section he heads up.

"Geez, these guys are pretty ruthless," said Mark Helmke, a spokesman for Lugar and a former lobbyist. "When you say disparaging things about members you sure don't ingratiate yourself."

Casey Aden-Wansbury, a spokesman for Lieberman, said the memo is an indication "our opponents think our bill could pass -- and they're right." "

What in the heck does it take to get people to
see the corruptness of the Repubs?

Officials discuss how to delay Election Day

"U.S. officials have discussed the idea of postponing Election Day in the event of a terrorist attack on or about that day, a Homeland Security Department spokesman says. While some on Capitol Hill are questioning the possibility of a delay as "excessive," others are saying the discussions are part of a prudent effort to plan for "doomsday scenarios." "
=============SNIP---------------
Excuse my French but this is a load of BULLSHIT!
Recently, we saw the Repubs do a "DeLay delay" as Barney Franks named it...whereby a proper change to the Patriot Act (the whole thing needs to be repealed really) was defeated by the Repubs extending, improperly, the roll call electonic vote from the usual 15 minutes, to 38 minutes (23 minutes over max) just to do political arm twisting to get enough vote changes to preserve this heinous act with its current, draconian and privacy violating provisions, intact.

Now, they wanna extent a DeLay delay to the elections.

I've seen "so-called" "Banana republics" have cleaner elections than this one will be.

Bush wants to get four more years to firmly entrench his dictatorship, in my opinion. This latest ploy is friggin'
OUTRAGEOUS.....

Living High in April, Shot Down in May, Lea Fastow headed to prison

"HOUSTON — Lea Fastow, the wife of former Enron finance chief Andrew Fastow, is trading in her life of luxury for an 8-foot-by-10-foot prison cell.

Fastow was set to report Monday to the federal lockup in downtown Houston to serve out a yearlong sentence for a misdemeanor tax crime.

The 42-year-old real estate and grocery heiress pleaded guilty in May, admitting to helping her husband hide money from financial schemes that fueled the one-time energy giant's December 2001 failure.

She faced a 2 p.m. CDT deadline for surrendering at the 11-story federal detention center.

Fastow's legal team had asked that the judge in her case recommend the Federal Bureau of Prisons place her in a minimum-security camp for women in Bryan, about 90 miles northwest of Houston.

But U.S. District Judge David Hittner refused to recommend a specific institution, and the prisons bureau assigned her to the Houston lockup.

Hittner granted her permission to travel to Florida with her family from June 19 through Sunday.

The lockup is more restrictive than minimum-security camps because it houses inmates — both men and women — of all kinds of security classifications. Most are there for drug crimes.

Fastow's lawyer, Mike DeGeurin, didn't return repeated calls for comment.

Lea Fastow was indicted last year on six felony tax and conspiracy charges for crimes that occurred after she quit her job as Enron's assistant treasurer in 1997.

Her husband already had been indicted in what grew to 98 counts of conspiracy, fraud, insider trading and other charges."
