The song celebrates being a weak, spineless ,co-dependent drug dependent (alcohol is a drug) obsessive /compulsive whining masochist making a booty call at a quarter til one, presumably, in the morning.

Rather than wallowing in their spineless whining misery and glorifying
that low status in a pseudo neo-country song, they should get off the
booze, get some counseling, grow a spine, and get a real job.

Andrew Sullivan is an interesting cat Nominally, he's been a Repub for a while, but, being gay,

So, when he posts something that is interesting, I have no problem saying so, and when he makes a clever observation, more power to him. Case in point is his posting of the picture from decades ago, showing a "circus fat man" that the rubes, i.e. carnival goers, used to pay hard earned farm dollars to see, because, someone that fat, was indeed a curiosity back then. The picture is instructive because, here in the old states of the Confederacy, you can see people this fat walking around Wal*Mart.

The death of Flash is one of the most retarded things I've heard in a while.
Now, these "Flash is dead" minions, are mainly talking about Flash as a video
format (e.g. FLV), and folks are yammering on about how the H.264 format is
"da bomb" and has gone from a marginal market to the majority of videos in that
format.

But, when you say, FLASH is dead, you MUST look at the real world,and realize
that in the real world, on the web, this zombie has the rosiest cheeks this
CodeMeister has seen. Some folks wanted to say Flash was a goner when the
beta program at YouTube came out, but I have watched high def vids on YouTube
in HTML5 and in Flash, and a curious thing happens. Flash is consistent, and
gives a pretty good video experience. HTML5 can, occasionally LOOK sharper,
but I also get the herky jerky artifacts in some vids that is horrible, something
Flash never gets. But, the problem here is that Flash is NOT just a video format...
but, a developer platform that, as we speak, probably is used more than anything
else on cutting edge websites, and that fact cannot be ignored. Go to any major
movie's website, what do you see? Yeah, flash. Go to various artists and special
effects house websites, what do you see, yeah, Flash!

The fact that a LOT of website designers and developers have spent a lot of money,
and invested a lot of time, in mastering the use of Flash as a design tool, and the fact that it is so integrally embedded in high dollar websites, cannot be dismissed or ignored.

The H.264 standard/format, may be a good video encoder, but can you use it to design controls on a website or any of the other utilitarian things that Flash is empowered to do? I think not. Look, I am not an apologist for Adobe, since lots of folks seem to have a problem with them, BUT, you cannot ignore their track record for developing applications that can take on all comers and come out on top.

Wane examples? Let's take the fact that one of their products has entered into the language as a verb..."He photoshopped that picture". Without a doubt, image manipulation and creation is ruled by Photoshop and other Adobe products.

InDesign kicked Quark's ass when Quark was the reigning program for publishers.
Quark had to implement changes in their prog just to keep up with InDesign.

Anyone who knows much about image production, desktop publishing (or major publishing), can quickly realize that Adobe, good, bad, or ugly, has taken a position of market dominance in just about everything they get involved in.

So, methinks this talk about the Death of Flash, probably, is just a "flash in the pain".

I watched her sign the legislation, saw her tight lipped bitchy , mean spirited face smile while , with great satisfaction, she sentenced Hispanics in the State to being stopped and hassle for nothing except the melanin content in their skin, color of their eyes, and color of their hair.

It's a darker day in the state of Arizona. A prickly cactus came to life and scratched ink across paper, enabling further persecution of the hardworking Hispanic peoples of that State.

What to do? Well, were I Hispanic, I would move my ass out of that dessicated, wizened, God forsaken piece of dirt they call Arizona. Caucasians and blacks should find a better state as well, and, they should leave this dried up, lifeless, useless piece of space (Governor Brewer) alone with the desert she deserves.

OK...I know that some folks may think that Owl City's FIREFLIES, Lady Gaga's PAPPARAZZI,
and whatever that nonsense is that Miley Cyrus chortles is music, and I guess, yes technically, it may be called music, but not what I want to call music. Today's music, to echo a song about the loss of balls in music, "Today's music ain't got the same soul". Well, I say it has NO soul. It is usually either some gal who SOUNDS like she is around 12, and has the tonal range of Ben Stein, whining on about something that no one in their right mind gives a shit about.

That's NOT to say that every song that was put out in the past was great.

Take "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" by Elton John. What the shyte was THAT tune about ?
I dunno if Elton or Bernie Taupin were high when that ditty was born, but it is one of the strangest songs I've ever heard. It's the musical equivalent of a spam website with words thrown in there that seemingly have little logical relation to each other (Sugarbear...Sweet Freedom ? WTF ?).

I guess, I miss the old days when songs were not ALL about love, and teenage angst over a love affair gone awry. Take Lady Gaga's PAPPARAZZI. Why the hell was that written? I can find no socially redeeming value. It's musical bubblegum, or PRON depending on how you look at it.,

Where's the saying "He paid his dues to sing the blues"? I think ALEX JONES should write music like "The New World Order Blues". It couldn't be ANY worse than that Romeo and Juliet tune from FAILURE SHIT...err.....Taylor Swift.

We need more old school tunes like KISS, AC/DC, Bad Company, where, you heard the first ten notes and you KNEW some bad ass, heart rocking music was about to crank up. The closest we have to that is...well...AC/DC, and they are getting old as the hills. Hell, Criss from KISS is 64 or thereabouts, and Keith Richards of the Stones, is, well, Rumpelstiltskin calls him his senior.

It seems to this pair of old ears that there is a reason for the load of aural shit on the airwaves
nowadays. 1) Most of these kids have never really LIVED! Miley Cyrus, for example, her life has been basically being a cartoon character, and living down a dad best recalled for a mullet and an achey breaky heart. She sounds like Mickey Mouse, and has no real life experiences from which to draw her singing. Look at the old school guys, like Howling Wolf. They LIVED the blues, and they LIVED music. They paid the dues to sing the blues.
2) Most of these kids just fucking can't sing worth a shit. Put ANY of the "new artists" up against a REAL singer like Janis Joplin. Let them try to do SUMMERTIME BLUES and see how completely vanilla whitebread bubblegum they sound. They have no range of voice. Look at the range that Freddie Mercury had. Look at the range of THREE DOG NIGHT singer who sang ONE (is the lonliest number), Chuck Negron ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Negron )

A government report found that many high-level Securities and Exchange Commission officials have spent more time surfing porn than searching for fraud. (Getty)

While the nation was in a financial freefall, regulators were searching the web... for porn.

The Security and Exchange Commission's own internal watchdog division issued a report finding that senior staffers at the agency spent hours viewing porn.

According to ABC News, which obtained a copy of the report, most of this behavior began in early 2008 just as the financial system was collapsing and apparently, it didn't stop: The most recent case is from just four weeks ago. All told, the investigation uncovered 31 offenders, over half of whom were pulling down annual salaries of up to $220,000.

Many of these offenders are still on the job.

One senior attorney at the agency's Washington headquarters spent up to eight hours a day looking at and downloading porn. When he filled up the hard drive on his government computer, he downloaded more porn images to CDs and DVDs that accumulated in boxes in his offices.

Other instances:

--The SEC accountant who tried to access porn sites 1,800 times in a two-week period (that'd be 180 attempts a day) and had 600 pornographic images on her computer hard drive.

--Another SEC accountant attempted to access porn sites 16,000 times in a single month.

--One employee tried hundreds of times to access porn sites and was repeatedly denied access. He finally bypassed the filter by using a flash drive, and happily surfed away. He agreed to resign.

That's not enough. He should be stripped of all severance and all benefits that might have been coming to him. That's a no brainer. Fire anyone who was guilty, without severance, without benefits, without anything.

Really wanna be hardcore? Publish their names and make them give back their salaries for the last 2½ years they spent surfing porn on the taxpayer's dime.

JOE BARTON- AN ONGOING EMBARRASSMENT FOR TEXAS

JOE, HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU USED YOUR BRAIN IN YOUR LIFETIME ?

Joe Barton was born September 15, 1949 in Waco, so he is around three years older than me.
Joe Barton's FULL name is Joe LINUS Barton, and given his penchant for being a big baby,
I wonder if he was named for LINUS van Pelt, Charlie Brown's best friend, brother of
Lucy van Pelt, and thumbsucking carrier of a security blanket. The cartoon character's first words were in 1954, the same year his security blanket appeared. In 1954, Joe LINUS Barton's was five years old, and perhaps he and Linus uttered their first words together. I suspect Joe's first words were either "God Bless Big Oil" or "Can you give me a dollar?".

Joe Barton is a constant embarrassment to me and many in the Lone Star State. This morning, his fat pudgy retarded face showed up on CSpan Journal, the morning talk show on CSpan. This morning, he was sharing his bizarre idea that there is no such thing as global warming, and that there is no proof of global warming because, according to old Joe (who's moving kind of slow at the junction...Petticoat Junction) there are parts of Earth that are getting colder while parts are getting warmer.

I wanted to call in and tell Joe he cannot count the freezer of his refrigerator after he turned the cold control up on it, as a "part of earth that is getting colder".

I kept waiting for someone to call and ask him if there is no global warming, why are the ice caps melting as an astounding rate. He announced that he would be happy to debate senators who believe there is global warming. Of course, this has all the convincing power of his assertion that global warming is just a "theory" (so is gravity and evolution but I don't see Joe debating that).

Actually, there is ONE good argument against evolution, and that argument was Joe Barton himself, spouting drivel and nonsense on CSpan. I am 100 percent certain his ancestors had more sense than Joe, and probably were bigger and stronger than he is, so Joe is an example of "devolution" or evolution running backward, where individuals are less and less able to survive in a survival of the fittest setting.

I guess, Joe is an example of the "Survival of the Shittiest", so that is a kind of modification or Neo-Darwinian theory. That theory is that, as time goes along, the Shittier the person, the more apt they are to make a lot of money and have a good job.

"AnyWho..." The fact that Old Joe has been elected to anything, even Dog Catcher, is a clear indictment of the voting strategies of everyone in Texas who voted for him. A department store dummy would be better, cause they could stay silent and not be shown to be an idiot, as Joe Barton does on a regular basis.

Sometimes, you just get enough of seeing bullshit and enough is enough. That's when the red light flashes, the alarms go off, and it's balls to the wall, time to kick ass and take names.

What set the CodeMeister off ? Well, it was another one of those lame ass Crock-u-mentaries purporting to be a tell all about the Neanderthals. Look, it's time to use logic and truth, and look at the world as it is, and not as the Species-Ists, want to promote it as.

First off, if you think the Neanderthals (pronounced "KNEE-ANDER-TALLS") were knuckle dragging, grunting retards, then perhaps it is a mirror you are gazing into when you think that.

The Neanderthals were ruling the roost for a lot longer than us poor Homo Sapiens have been around. Neanderthals lived in Europe, parts of central Asia and the Middle East for about 170,000 years. They were omnivores, from all info we have found, and as such, it meant they were direct competitors with all of the other large carnivores, with the giant herbivores, and with the other omnivores. They lived in groups and from what we have found, hunted in groups. The latter statements imply or suggest several things. They imply a nuanced social hierarchy, they imply social skills, political intragroup, perhaps internecine finesse, they imply communication skills, perhaps both verbal, and probably through hand gestures, facial gestures, and perhaps even written or drawn communication. They survived during a freezy frosty time when you and I probably would have frozen to death. Quite some time ago, a body was discovered which suggested that Neanderthals were seeing after or taking care of those in their family or clan who were injured or unable to fend for themselves. This brings up compassion, empathy, in other words, high emotions, perhaps even altruism.

Another thing is this idiotic depiction of the prognathic, pronounced brow, swarthy, dark skinned and dark haired unibrow creature with what appears to be a small fur tied around their waist, leaving their legs, arms and upper chest exposed. What friggin' dumbass would believe that people who were hunting in snowing or icy conditions, looking for berries or other edible vegetation in cold weather, and migrating in cold weather, would dress like that. Do Eskimos dress that way? Hell no ! Well, it makes sense that the Neanders wouldn't dress like an idiot either.

But, perhaps the stereotype irritating me the most, is the notion they were swarthy and dark haired. Look, these guys and gals were Northern Europeans, living in the very cold Climates in Germany and even farther north. If you look at the modern peoples who are native to these cold climates such as Iceland, Scandinavia, Germany, even Ireland, you know that they tend to be more fair skinned and have lighter colored hair, either red or blond. Even animals such as the arctic fox, polar bear, wolves in very cold climates, are white or very light colored.

Many folks believe that the Neanders may have been red headed and had light skin.

THE VAPID BANALITY OF CURRENT TOP 40 POPULAR TUNES

Call me a relic , call me what you will, today's music don't give me the same thrill, to paraphrase Mr. Seger. Today, I was trying to figure out exactly WHY today's top 40 "tunes" suck so bad.

One of the new popular acts (i.e. contemporaneous as I write this) is "Lady Antebellum" and their song I NEED YOU NOW. Now, let's talk about the good things about the song first. Lead vocals by the lady are pleasing, and she sings OK (she's no Janis Joplin though). The tune is nice and earwiggy, and the duet with the male is passable. That being said, we know there are many sets of rhyming lyrics that can be set to chords and notes. Notable examples came from Weird Al Yankovic and his send up of Jackson tunes such as "Eat it" for "Beat it". That being a fact, why did this group create an anthem to weakness like the late night booty call of a co-dependent female alcoholic ("I'm a little drunk and I need you now). It's a sickening concept for a song, depressive, and sucks. In fact, much of today's music has no heart or soul.

I wish I could be as optimistic as Huey Lewis and the News were on their tune "The heart of rock and roll is still beating.
I think the heart of rock and roll is in ventricular fibrillation.

Thank goodness for groups like Nickelback and Train. Although I have never been a big Train fan, (I never got that Drops of Jupiter tune, it sounded stupid), I do like the reggae feel of Hey, Soul Sister.

That being said, listen to the monotonous doldrums of something like
Owl City's "Fireflies" or "How to save a life" by The Fray. HORRIBLE.

I don't know. Was there a music vampire that sucked the life, the passion,
the volume out of these singers and groups?

A friend of mine, a singer / songwriter who has been in the music business for years, postulates they are overproduced. I agree, but that is not the entire answer, because if you ask me, DUST IN THE WIND by Kansas, a great tune, was also overproduced. One thing is the monotone nature of the new singers, as if they are Quaaludes or downers.

Unfortunately, the Second City TV (SCTV) parody of the somnolescent
quality of Andy Williams or Perry Como, seems animated and passionate next to these new folks.

Even good old Sade, long a favorite of mine, has altered her new music
Soldier of Love , to make it more "contemporary" (read hip hop), and
although her voice still rocks, her "Wild Wild West" begs the question,
by trying to make her music sound relevant to new ears, has she
lost her relevance ?

So, on the top 40, you have horrible, overproduced tunes like

Well, perhaps I am spoiled. I was alive when the Beatles' tune She Loves You was first played on the radio. I've watched music change from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and now, in the 2010 decade, and generally, things started sucking in the 1990s. Even the terrible disco music, as bad as that was, was better than what we have now.

Reassessing Windows 7 - "Code moves to the Dark Side"

OK...I pretty much hammered Win 7 on my last post, and now that I have had some time with it, I feel it's right to give a reassessment. I do feel like I've been swayed to the dark side, because I am actually ENJOYING it now, and hate when I have to work on my XP boxes. Now, to be fair, Win 7 still does piss me off with their relabeling of things , like DEVICES and PRINTERS instead of PRINTERS AND FAXES. Learning where to find things on Win 7 is getting easier, but still, not as intuitive as XP. My major aggravation, and this is not so much an aggravation at WINDOWS, as it is with Canon, is that there are no drivers to work with my expensive multifunction Canon Imagerunner.
Now, my Imagerunner was my main printer, and after getting Win 7 and upgrading to the Pro version still finding that Canon has not cared enough about their customers to have someone code some 64 bit drivers to work with Win 7. Now, the irony is that my old workhorse, cheaper laser printer, HP M Plus 4 (an HP 4 that works with Macs and PCs both) DOES have an updated driver and does work with Win 7. So, all I can say is that when I look at buying a new multifunction printer, which company do you think will get a more favorable look, HP, who provides updated drivers, or Canon, who says to their customers, FUCK YOU. Hmmmmmm.

So, what do I LIKE about Win 7 ? Well, at this point, I like MOST of Win 7, A LOT.
Firstly, the boys in Redmond finally included a backup feature, and , though it
crashed the first few times I tried it, today, it looked as though it would work.
I really like the toolbar / startbar changes, because if you have lots of browser windows open, or just lots of windows open, the little preview lets you know quickly which is which. And, I've actually enjoyed the aesthetic changes such as the various themes offered, and the ease with which you can change the themes.

I like the widgets a lot. In short, I'm having to grudingly admit I really like Win 7. Vista still sucks, and I have a box I hardly ever use with Vista on it. Actually,
Vista SHOULD have been Win 7 alpha, and quickly worked over to come up with Win 7 beta. When I first started using Win 7, it was giving the nag screens, ("Are you sure you want to open this...") and perhaps that was because it was a home premium, which I fairly quickly upgraded to Professional. At any rate, it finally quit nagging me and I was glad of that (it gets old really quick).

I do wish more legacy 32 bits progz worked better with Win 7. Sure, you can run them in emulation mode as Admin, and they kind of work. I was able to get my Micrografx Picture Publisher (my fave graphics manip proggie) work with Win 7 by emulating XP and running as Admin, and disabling some of the fancy graphical modes. There are some glitches , but it works ok. Most of the legacy progz, Win 7 puts in a X86 directory.

All in all, liking dat Win 7 better and better...now Canon, you're on my shit list.

AMERICAN IDOL BEST PERFORMANCES FOR 22 MARCH 2010

Since I haven't watched much of "The Idol" this year, I tuned into the 2 hour, "cut em down to 10" show. The first two performers were so bad, that I was wondering what Idol had come to. But, during the show, there were two young performers who had star quality. One was the blonde haired Crystal Bowersox (not to be called Bobbiesox) and the other was blond haired Casey James (not Casey Jones). They both sung old songs, did them with feeling, and did them well. The final choice should be between Crystal and Casey. And, by the way, what the hell is wrong with Ellen's health. She looks terrible (except for the eyes).

My blog topic was something that was obvious today. At my business, I decided, because I have a server at work that is more glitches than decide processing, that I needed to get a new computer.
Well, for a quick purchase, I went to Wally World and got the E-Machines special. Now, in the past, E-machines was a very cheap box that, at the time, had more than its share of problems. They eventually got bought out by Gateway, and since, for a time I worked at Dell, but bought nothing but Gateways, may tell you something about my Gateway preferences.

Anyway, with Gateway behind them, I decided that perhaps they wouldn't suck, and I had already bought my Mom one of the emachines (with Vista on it, God have pity on my soul), so I took the plunge and brought one home with Windows 7 Home Premium on it, 4 gigs of Ram and a 750 gig hard drive.

I had bought a Vista powered machine for my business before, but since it didn't want to play nice with my other XP powered machines on my network, I resigned it to home duty.

I HATE Vista and heard that Windows 7 would be better. So far, Windows 7 sucks even MORE.

Why do I say that? Read on my droogs and ye shall discover why.

Firstly, I have a wireless network and am using Netgear wireless USB adapters to connect the boxes to the network. On Vista, using a Netgear USB adapter, I was able to install the adapter without a problem. So, in my naivete, I thought I could do the same with W7...oh no, not so fast.
Using the install CD, it kept trying to install and run, and Windows 7 kept swatting the program down like an irritating gnat. Seeing that I had a hammer in my hand and was about to put the box out of its memory, W7 offered to try to "help me" (like Executioners "help" the condemned out of their misery with a short drop with a rope necktie, of a slice of the ax. I thought, well, ok, perhaps it will try to run in compatibility mode or something, and it even offered me choices all the way back to Windows 98 (and when I saw the W98 selection, I actually was pining for the good old days of Win 98, before the code writers decided to turn the Windows experience into a Nightmare Experience). The program was not able to run or install in any mode. Well, finally, on another machine, I downloaded some new drivers and software for adapter (they only had software as new as Vista) and finally it installed. And literally, everything I tried to do, I had a nag screen asking me if I wanted to do this or that. . . even though I had heard that this nag business was almost eliminated in W7...it is actually WORSE in W7. Then, although I logged into the box as the ADMIN, it kept telling me that almost anything from downloading a program to installing something, had to be done by the Administrator (which I was the ONLY Administrator on). It kept saying it was in "Protected Mode" and there was some Privacy nonsense that, between the two of them, was trying to keep me from doing much of anything productive.

And, lest I forget, as you may know, W7 comes with ONE browser, IE , the WORST browser in the box. I used to actually LIKE IE as a browser, and though, until version 6, that it was worth using, though, I started using browsers from Mozilla from their appearance as well. After version 6, it honestly appeared to me that SOMEONE at Microsoft, was trying as hard as they could, to sabotage their own product. On many of the boxes I owed with MS OS on them, when I tried to "upgrade" (read here as "RUIN") my browser, things wouldn't go right, and after "upgrading" from 6 to 7 or 8, I would get a browser which would keep saying it was "CONNECTING..." but never fulfilled its promise.

Now, I'm NOT a newbie to MS Operating Systems. I started out on boxes that ran the earliest form of DOS, back when DOS came on a few floppy discs. I was a beta tester on Windows 95, and all my Windows boxes run authentic copies of Windows, not Linux. So, I can't be seen as a Mac head (though I love Macs and find them elegant boxes), a Luddite, nor a newbie.

The point here is that there is an old saying about people "Fixing things till they break them" and nothing I know of is more indicative of the truth of this, than what our friends at Redmond have done to their operating system and browser.

First off, CONTROL PANEL. I'm sorry but did they have a million people demanding they fill up control panel with forty or fifty icons ? In CP, in Win XP, you have "PRINTERS and FAXES" and it was damn easy to install a printer. Now, in WIN 7, you have some idiot calling it DEVICES and PRINTERS, and it is a task that would make Biblical JOB pull his hair out and lose his patience.
When it polls the printers on Networks, instead of letting you know which is which, like
HP LASERJET 4 or CANON 1330, it numbers all the printers , so you get "printer 9, printer 8, and on and on". Now, if you only have one or two printers, that is one thing, but if you have lots of physical printers hooked up to various machines, and some printers being what I call "virtual printers" , like printing to Acrobat PDF or some of these other kinds of "printers" which are non-physical printers and don't generate hard copy, it can be damn confusing about what printers are real physical printers and which ones will only generate a file somewhere, if there is nothing but "printer 1, printer 2, printer 3" and so on. I don't have the time to print to every printer on the network to hope that one will actually generate a paper document.

And, even if you can figure out ONE printer that will actually generate a physical copy of a document, even though it is already installed and functioning on the Network, Windows 7 decides it can use or install it and doesn't have this seven year old Canon's drivers in its database, and even when you download new drivers, doesn't think it can use the INF file to recognize it.

Windows 7 is the biggest waste of code I have ever seen. One thing is that they took a perfectly good OS, Windows XP and broke it. Some idiot at MS must have been watching a movie, and saw large, clear flat screens with transparent application windows, and thought "I have to put that in Windows 7". When some of the cool shadow effects came out in XP, I thought "great, that's kinda neat". When I saw what Windows 7 looked like, I thought "My God, what a fuckin' mess!".

They have gone NUTS with the translucent and transparent windows. I don't WANT my app windows to be hard to read because you can see what is behind it. I wouldn't want a newspaper that was clear except for the print, because you would get distracted by what was on the other side, and actually, it is just hard as hell to read without a contrasting background.

Look, I am not an MS hater. If I were a purist, I would either have all MACs, or a bunch of Linux boxes. What I do hate is changing something that works, just for the sake of change.
It would be like, if black, round rubber tires ran perfectly well, and some idiot designer felt they needed to be changed for change sake, and colored them rainbow colored, made the oblong instead of round, and decided they should produce some sort of sing song sound when they rolled. To me, that's what Windows 7 is...a rainbow colored , oblong tire that asks you every few feet if you really want to keep driving, and sings sound irritating song.

Now, when I beta tested Windows 95, I was blown away, because it was SOOOO much better than Windows 3.0, 3.1, and the infamous, Windows 3.1.1 . Later, Redmond gave us the horrible Windows ME. I think someone was drunk when they came up with that one. Well, if there was someone drunk and generated Millennium Edition, they must have been stoned on Acid when they produced Windows 7. Although I never tried any recreational drugs, to me, W7 is like, if you could give LSD to your computer. It produces weird windows, it asks you every time you turn around if you want to do this or that, demands only an administrator does something when you ARE the administrator, and all in all, does everything it can to interfere with you doing anything productive, and honestly, it drives you to the point of frustration when you want to take a hammer to the screen (oh yeah, I was there a few sentences ago).

There was very little wrong with Windows XP. It had good legacy drivers, it could run older programs in a compat mode, and was pretty reliable. Vista was horrible, but it spawned Windows 7, which is MORE horrible.

So, my message to Redmond and Billy Boy Gates is this. Guys and Gals, just because you CAN change something, does NOT MEAN you should change it. To me, Windows 7 is a cartoonish version of XP. If you saw the movie with Mr. Bean, in which he screws up the face on Whistler's mother ... you will see what I think they did with XP to produce W7.

Where's the Anger in Rock and Roll ?

Sorry for the extended hiatus from posting. Damn life gets in the way. Anywho, my thoughts today, as I was driving the interstate, after listening to John Tesh's radio show was, "Where is the anger in Rock?" As far back as this old boy can 'member, there was anger, or at least, deep emotion in rock. Back in the days of Elvis the Pelvis, the snarling lip, gyrating hip, and suggestive lyrics, spawned real, gut level controversy. There was actually a rebellion against something. In the 50s, there actually was a lot to rebel against, in spite of the fact that the right wing loons seem to think the 50s was a time of lollipops, cruising to the drive-in, and making out in your '57 Chevy with Susie Q.
There was ageism, sexism, racism, and yes, religionism. Many right wing idiots these days bemoan that there is too much sensitivity awareness and that we should go back to the nuttiness of the 50s with "Tailgunner Joe" and his gay butt buddy, Attorney Roy Cohn, hunting down phantom Commies under every bed. No, the 50s were NEVER a good decade for blacks, women, disabled, gay, or other non-white , non-males.

So, there WERE a lot of things to get angry about in the 50s. In the 60s, HELL YEAH there were a lot of things to get angry about, starting with Vietnam, including the short hairs vs. long hairs stupidity, and also, racism, sexism, religionism, and more.

The music of Morrison (The Doors), Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, oozed and screamed the angst of the 60s.

The best music is emotion acoustified. Screaming guitar solo riffs, clear, mournful, touched your heart, bypassed the mind, and made you feel long before you thought.

But, in the 70s, something happened to the anger. The Disco years replaced emotion based music with a catchy tune with a beat, perhaps nothing so encapsulated the music of that day than the infamous "Disco Duck". I think that anger died in the seventies, ground to death by 4 inch platform shoes on a disco dance floor, to the beat of "I love the Nightlife (I love to boogie)".

Anger based music ended NOT with a bang, but with a whimper.

What passes for "angry music" today, such as the metal with screaming/growling dark lyric tunes, are "poseur bands". Even the Skinhead ska is just faux anger from bald Doc Martin wearing kids with too much time on their hands, trying to work themselves up into a frenzy such as Alex from A Clockwork Orange, might have called a bit of the old "Ultra-violence".

Anger and violence are not the same, though one may precede the other in many instances.
Anger can be the pent up rage of seeing decades of injustice go on under the guise of government, without anything being done to correct it. There were plenty of angry voices such as Woody Guthrie, silently documenting the death of the lower working class. This was capturing real anger, real angst, real rage, not the fast played, screaming pretenders to emotion which have only a digitized, synthesized, online form of faux rage.

Nowadays, there is often a guitar in the background, without a definite tune, which in fact, could be a monkey randomly strumming, and usually a female, or female sounding male, gibbering about some lost love nonsense, which, after hearing about a hundred years of the lost love, woe is me crap, I think someone in the listening audience should say "OK, I get it, you're a loser at love, so, get a dog and a life and quit whining about being drunk at 1:15 in the morning."

REFLECTIONS ON LIFESPAN

Scientists often go all anthropomorphic on your ass when talking about nature. For example, it is not unusual for them to discuss disease pathogens, like bacteria or the AIDS virus, in terms of producing symptoms in order to spread themselves more effectively, in the same way botanists may talk about flowering plants making themselves attractive to bees so that the bees will spread their pollen for them. Either viruses, bacteria, and flowering plants think and plan or not, and if the former is true, heaven help us, the movie THE HAPPENING may turn out to be prophetic one day.

Another good example arises when scientists talk about human life span. Here , they get into giving Nature "herself" intentionality, and talk about nature wanting humans to live long enough to procreate, and then, fixing cell processes so that they start acting inefficiently, leading to the loss of effective functioning and ultimately to death, because, once you reproduce, it's more effective to have you die and all those juicy amino acids and nitrogenous compounds, to get recycled into worms or birds or something else. NATURE herself must shake her invisible fist at those who insist on being cremated, and thus, all those good recyclable organic building blocks going down the drain (or up in smoke, to allude to a marijuana influenced movie).

Let's face it, humans are meddlers, and in the broad look at our efforts, we are pretty much parasites on the earth. N ow, I know that if you are a human (and chances are, if you are reading this blog, you either are human, or a damn interesting extra-terrestrial) you probably don't like that parasitic characterization, but man up, belly up to the bar and face facts, we are.

What is needed in the world, from Nature's standpoint, is less ozone hole punching, less methane from ill placed farts, and MORE oxygen release. Let's face it, trees and plants are doing their part to provide us with life giving oxygen, and what do we do but blow a little CO2 their way, and then cut them off at the knees to make paper. Nature must like large creatures with slow metabolisms (except for brontosauruses, because she 86ed them a long time ago) because they get to live a longer time than us Homo sapiens.

Redwoods in California can live for centuries, and even the lowly giant sea turtle can live to be a 150 years or even more. The smaller creatures with high metabolisms seem like they must annoy Nature, because she kills them off rather quickly (see "mayfly ").

Some people such as the Vikings, say that when you are born, there is already a day on the calendar that you will not live beyond, that the skein of your life is already laid out, and you cannot do anything to change that (so even suicide may be part of that plan).

Perhaps this is true because we all know people who survive accidents that SHOULD have killed them, but they live, and there are also people who die from things that they should have lived through.

Sometimes, life deals you a rotten hand. Take Dr. Michael Crichton. He was educated, a medical doctor, a writer of renown with many movies made from his books like Jurassic Park and many more. Given all that, one might envy this tall, handsome doctor who seemed to have it all.
He died at age 60 from cancer. But, then you have ne'er do wells who are not attractive, not educated, and who lived to be a 100. Where's the sense in it. Perhaps the good DO die young.

There are so many imponderables in life. Who knows when a forgotten strand of your DNA will hold an oncogenic bit of code just waiting for the right age or right conditions to do you in .

Every day, driving in traffic, you are tempting the Fates. Just ONE drunk driver, coming from the other direction, can have your obituary written on the undersurface of their bumper. Just one disgruntled, fired worker can come back two years after being fired and open fire where you work, even if you never knew him, he could be your executioner, your assassin. The road less traveled may have been the fork in the road that would have saved your life.

So, look at the redwood trees. They live, they grow, they breath out life giving oxygen for you, and as long as some asshole doesn't decide to cut them down, chances are they will outlive you.
They have no blog, no myspace page, no facebook, but isn't living in the sunshine and growing, more of an intelligent victory than all our digital accoutrements ?

Perhaps there is no grand scheme. Perhaps the question "Why am I here" is as nonsensical as
"where is 12"? Honestly, you are here because your parents met, had sex, and didn't abort you, and that is as honest as any answer about why you are here can be. If you are looking for some grand purpose for your existence, in some neo-platonian self musing, you can allude to God and Jesus and all kinds of grandiose religious speculation, but in the end, when you do that, what separates you from the schizophrenic with their conspiracy theories ?

No, the focus should no be on how LONG you will live, because if a long lifespan were your goal, you made a big mistake being born into this species. You SHOULD have squeezed your soul into an acorn or something. No, the real question is not how LONG, but how well you life, and in this, I am not talking about the idiotic bullshit bumper sticker that the boy who dies with the most toys wins. That kind of sophomoric fraternity inspired bullshit marks you as profoundly retarded in the soul enhancing ranking. And, I am not talking about making grandiose changes in the political arena. I am talking about how well you lived in a more meaningful, and yes, harder, more time consuming way.

I am talking about living your life in kindness, in generosity, in helping others, especially the animals we share the planet with. I would rather that my epitaph read that I loved and was kind to animals, than that I was a good writer, good artist, president, or anything else. My joy, my satisfaction, is being able to do something good for my fellow creatures, and yes, including other humans as well. A smile or a purr is more of a reward than all the gold that may lurk in Fort Knox. Doing good is a reward. Being a decent creature on earth is a reward. I sound a bit pollyanish, but, I am 100 percent being authentic in that ultimately, this is what I want to achieve in whatever time my corporeal body has on this plane of existence. Since I don't know what lies beyond death, I KNOW I can do good here and know, and by God, I intend to do that, no matter what obstacles lie in my path. This is not preaching, but the most simple statement of what my life is all about that I can make, and the most honest statement of why life is worth living at all.

Kristina Clair, systems administrator for Indymedia.us, said she was shocked when she received a subpoena from U.S. Attorney Tim Morrison in Indianapolis in January demanding the IP address of every person who visited the site on June 25, 2008. She said she was also instructed "not to disclose the existence of this request unless authorized by the Assistant U.S. Attorney."

Clair said she was astonished by the demand. "It's a purely aggregate site, it only pulls data from other Indymedia feeds," she told FoxNews.com. "There's no information fed to the site directly."

When she contacted the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a legal advocacy group for digital freedom, she was told the subpoena was riddled with problems.

"Not only was this request a plain violation of federal privacy law -- which would require the government to at least get a court order based on a factual showing to get that kind of data; not only did it violate Department of Justice regulations that require subpoenas to media organizations to be vetted by the attorney general; not only did it threaten the First Amendment right to read anonymously of all of Indymedia's users, it also violated Ms. Clair's First Amendment rights by ordering her not to disclose the subpoena's existence," EFF Senior Staff Attorney Kevin Bankston told FoxNews.com.

EFF said it sent a letter to Assistant U.S. Attorney Doris L. Pryor on Feb. 13 relaying its concerns with the subpoena and explaining that Indymedia didn't store IP addresses and didn't have the data the government was looking for.

"On February 24, I received a voicemail from Ms. Pryor in response to my letter," Bankston said. "In that message, Ms. Pryor said that I was correct that the subpoena did not compel Ms. Clair's silence, but that she would be seeking a court order, as she would confirm in a letter later that day."

Instead, Bankston said, he received a fax from Pryor the next day stating that the subpoena had been withdrawn.

When he called the U.S. Attorney's office later that day to discuss the newly dismissed subpoena, Bankston said Steven DeBrota, the assistant U.S. attorney working on the case, told him the office had reconsidered seeking a court order for Clair's silence but still insisted that disclosure of the subpoena would harm the investigation.

Still, Bankston said, DeBrota would not confirm that Clair would face no legal consequences if she disclosed the subpoena, so EFF sent another e-mail asking for confirmation that there was no legal bar to disclosing the subpoena. Three months later, there was still no response, he said.

"So we wrote them again saying, 'If you actually think this is going to hurt your investigation, go to court and we'll fight it out there, otherwise we're going assume it's not going to hurt your investigation and we're going to speak out about it,'" Bankston said.

With no response to the May letter, EFF and Clair said they decided to go public with the subpoena and EFF's report critiquing it out of fear that this may not be an isolated incident.

"We don't know how many people have received these subpoenas -- that would violate the privacy of anyone that ever read their Web site -- but didn't say anything about it and didn't contact a lawyer because there was a gag order attached to it," EFF spokeswoman Rebecca Jeschke told FoxNews.com.

When asked about the EFF report, U.S. Attorney Morrison told FoxNews.com "we can't comment about that."

Morrison then directed FoxNews.com to Justice Department spokeswoman Melissa Schwartz, who said, "The U.S. Attorney's Office of Indiana South issued the subpoena and it's a grand jury investigation. They're [Morrison's office] the one's giving comment. ... Unfortunately, we [the Justice Department] can't comment on grand jury deliberations."

A source with knowledge of the situation said the subpoena in question required the signature of the attorney general -- or, in his absence, of acting Attorney General Mark Filip -- but that Filip's office never saw it, and the subpoena was never kicked up for approval.

The source would not say whether an internal investigation into the matter, specifically Morrison's actions, had been opened.

My review of THIS IS IT

I broke down and went to see This Is It. I was a bit on the fence because, although I liked Michael Jackson's music, I wasn't a giant fan, and this was going to be just footage of the rehearsals for the THIS IS IT Tour. But, my wife wanted to go, and I thought it would be ok.

Well, it was more than OK. It was really good...not so much for any NEW music, because the tunes that he seemed to shine on, were the old ones like Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, and his usual repertoire. And, really, from what I can see, the tour was more about a multimedia presentation with a bit of "WOW" thrown in, and equally about dance as it was music.

The movie starts with teary eyed dancers and singers telling how they had long been fans of
MJ and that actually being part of his show was a dream come true. It was kind of heavy because you realized that MJ was more than just a favorite star of theirs, more than their own inspiration, this tour could take relative unknowns and become a major boost of their careers.

For me, one person stood out. When television was showing shots of the rehearsals, the one
scene that took my attention was the one in which a fan or wind machine was blowing,
there was MJ and a gorgeous blond female guitarist, almost pixie like face, was wailing
on the guitar. I had no clue who she was, but decided I would find out. I found out
her name was Orianthi Panagaris, and then later, found that she was being praised
by my all time favorite guitarist, Carlos Santana who said that if he had a baton to
pass, it would go to Orianthi. He placed her on the level with himself and the late , great,
Stevie Ray Vaughn. So, her work on the tour got my attention and now I am a giant
fan of Orianthi. But, there were many dancers and singers who, if the tour had gone
forward, would probably get the kind of exposure that would only help their careers.

Besides the singing, there was background video, special effects, pyrotechnics, and more.
There were guys being shot out of below the floor, there were fireworks, and overall,
it would have been a great show.

Jackson comes off as a healthy 50 year old who seemed to be invigorated and excited
at the prospect of this tour. It's a damn shame he died as he did, and if anything,
this movie does a great job of highlighting how much life and exuberance for
the earth and for love / agape, there was in Michael.

He was interested in being involved in every aspect of the show, and was equally
as at home performing in front of the professional dancers, as he was in singing
Billie Jean.

Michael "made his bones" as an artist and has his place in the Hall of Fame, made,
as the "King of Pop". Orianthi is an artist who has a great career in front of her,
so, both of these artists, because of their talent and stage presence, will be in the
public mind for a long long time. It is all the other folks who were on the cusp of
being "discovered" that I wonder how they will recover from this tragedy.

At least, someone had the presence of mind to record this for posterity.

God Rest Your Soul Michael. You truly are the King of Pop.

Recently, President Jimmy Carter drew a lot of flack for alleging the outburst of trailer trash Joe Wilson in his infamous "You Lie" outburst during a presidential address (perhaps Wilson went to one too many "Town Hall" meetings and thought it was ok to holler out anything you think at any time, but NO JOE SCHMOO , it is not"). While I am convinced that one Southerner can see a racist outburst in another Southerner (Wilson is from SOUTH Carolina), and I believe Jimmy was right,
the hateful feelings coming from the South are not ALL just because he is black. Mr. Obama is almost a "Perfect Storm" of things that Southerners at this point in time, have almost been programmed to fear and hate (or hate and loathing if this were in Rolling Stone). Sure, he is black, but, even WORSE, he is HALF-black , and Southerners for years, for decades have looked down on interracial dating, interracial marriages, and yes, on the product of such unions, so in a way, being half black to them, represents one of the reasons our country is going to hell in a handbasket as they would put it. So, there's part of it. Number two, he is a Yankee. Now, I KNOW that the civil war was around a century and a half ago, but old prejudices die hard, even today we see folks sporting the Stars and Bars banner of the Confederacy. So he is a half breed Yankee (shudder). Now, on top of that, he is very well educated, which to the white sheets with eyeholes crowd, makes him guilty of being "uppity".

Now, ON TOP of him being an uppity, half breed educated Yankee, he's a LAWYER, and people in the South, distrust lawyers. But, since we're on a roll, let's not stop there. His tolerance of abortion and the rhetoric used by the right wing nutjobs is telling people he is trying to prevent them from practicing their religion, even acting as the devil's right hand man in furthering as they would put it, "the murder of millions of innocent babies". He's almost the anti-Christ at this point. Now comes the charge he is trying to take us into socialism. And, also, they see him as not defending America like Bush did. Some whites in the South actually claim HE is prejudiced.

So, an uppitym, half breed Yankee lawyer is enforcing his will on the South to end their religion, kill millions of their unborn babies, and the best is next to come. Alex Jones says he is a puppet of the New World Order, and is leading us down the road to total enslavement.

Oh yeah, did I mention he smokes too ?

Well, from the standpoint of the Old Confederacy in the South, this uppity half-breed Yankee lawyer is spewing the fumes of hell, laughing as he facilitates the murder of millions of unborn babies, and delivering us into the hands of our enemies, the "Death Panel" folks.

Reflections on the Religious Right Wing Nut Jobs

A friend was telling me about listening to right wing religious radio...you know, that's like Rush Limbaugh if he was really really high on oxycontin and LSD and suddenly thought like God was talking to him directly and telling him that he needed to tell everyone how to live.

So, I listened to a station that carries that bullshit all fucking day. I have
to tell you that MOST of these assholes sound so gay that I could envision them
dancing around in a tutu and wearing hot pink flamingo feathers. I guess part of
it is that many of them (perhaps ALL) were not like me, born and raised in Texas.

If any of these fuckers talked that way where the old CodeWarrior went to school,
they would have had the shit kicked out of them each and every day. Of course,
the irony is that they all TALK gay, but are homophobic and are constantly whining
like a bitch about the "homosexual agenda". It reminds me of comic Jeff Altman's great sketch about Jerry Falwell claiming Jim Bakker of Heritage USA, had given men a "homosexual look".

This sketch breaks me up. Altman rules. Anyway, all day , day after day, these fuckers harp on the same lies over and over. They call bloody, mucousy blobs of goo in women's bellies, "babies". They would call a snot ball a baby, because, a fertilized egg, which they will claim IS a person and IS a baby, looks like a glorified snot ball. I looked up the proper term for the stuff in a woman's womb from conception to birth and that term is "conceptus". A baby is a post-parturitional thing, not pre-parturitional.

But, you see, they want you to think about the cuddly baby in a commercial, or YOUR child when it was a baby. Hell, when you were still in the womb, early on, you were a glorified tadpole with tail and vestigial gill slits and all that shit.

Wilson has railed against health care reform, warning that offering more choice to people amounts to a government takeover of health insurance. To him, it's an evil that has to be defeated.

Yet, at the same time, Wilson hasn't said whether he's opted into TRICARE for Life. The completely government-run health insurance system for certain military retirees is available to Wilson, as he's a 31-year Guard and Reserve veteran (though he joined after getting out of Vietnam). If he's not, of course, then he's taking insurance from the government-run pool offered to Congressmen. Then, there's all of our active duty service members who are on TRICARE -- stuck in an evil government system that must have turned them into Communists by now.

Wilson has saved them and gotten them out of TRICARE, right?

Right?

"TRICARE provides world class health care," said Wilson in a press release. "I believe TRICARE is one part of our health care system that's working."

What?! Joe Wilson is all for this horrible fascist system of government care?

Well, maybe not. Despite being against government health care, and then paying lip service about the awesomeness of government-run TRICARE, Wilson's voted to underfund it.

In 2007, Wilson was against $1.9 billion for military medical care (including funds for Walter Reed) and in 2005 voted against expanding TRICARE eligibility for our Guard and Reserve components, despite the fact that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has them fighting alongside the active component more than ever before.

OK, so Wilson suffers from split personality disorder when it comes to government health care for troops. But, he must be against the Department of Veterans Affairs, another bastion of Marxist thought, turning generations of American veterans into pinkos.

"With a growing number of servicemembers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, we must go to great measures to ensure our veterans receive the best care possible. That means greater oversight of the facilities, hospitals, and clinics that care for our veterans. They deserve access to the highest quality medical technology and a health care system that is responsive to their immediate and long-term needs. Their sacrifice and commitment to this nation deserves nothing less," said Wilson on his campaign site.

Gosh, that sounds just like Hitler, doesn't it?

Oh, but thank heaven, Joe Wilson voted repeatedly to cut veterans care, and save us from modern day Leninism. He voted for a $14 million cut in 2003, against $1.6 billion for the agency in 2005, $2.9 billion again in 2005, for a $13.5 billion cut in 2005, against $1.8 billion in 2003, and millions and millions more.

Maybe it's asking too much for me to ask that Joe Wilson think like a rational human being, but I'll ask anyway. He needs to decide whether offering citizens the option of getting the same kind of coverage we in the military get is evil or not evil.

If it's not -- if military and veterans government-run insurance and care is not malevolent -- then he needs to stop his shouting and properly fund TRICARE and the VA, and let everyone have the option of getting a public insurance plan.

But, if government-run care and insurance really is wicked, then he needs to stop lying about how he feels about TRICARE and Veterans Care. He should tell the truth about why he voted against funding for those programs -- because he thinks troops and veterans should be left out in the cold and turned away in return for their service.

Until he's honest about his position on Veterans Care, Military Care, and the Public Option, I can only say this: Representative Wilson, YOU LIE."

I'm pretty invested in this health care bill battle. First, twenty-four years ago, when I was 24 years old, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. My medical treatments lasted over four years, cost close to half a million dollars, and were largely paid for by insurance coverage from my two acting unions, Actors Equity Association and Screen Actors Guild. Still, my family was forced to empty my bank account to meet official poverty levels (there wasn't very much to spend, at the time) in order to qualify for Social Security disability payments, and my years of illness nearly bankrupted my parents -- in spite of all the insurance coverage and assistance. I can tell you firsthand: even the most privileged among us are within a millimeter of losing everything to an unexpected illness. I was lucky enough to escape the clutches of what was then considered to be an incurable disease. I had my life. But I was left with nothing else. So, I'm puzzled, and amazed, and dismayed, by those who want health care reform legislation to be anything other than the most comprehensive and powerful it can possibly be.

Then there's my new family. My wife is from Italy. She, her parents, her grandparents, all her relatives, and all their friends have received prompt, capable, and comprehensive health care
their entire lives, and it hasn't cost them a thing. They've had their teeth cleaned regularly, their cavities filled, gum tissue transplants, fused spinal discs, abdominal surgeries, you name it. They didn't wait any longer than anyone would here. Nothing was rationed or withheld. They were, and are, every age, from zero to 94. Their government makes sure that its citizens can visit the doctor, have surgeries, and take care of their health, period. It's a right of existence, and -- to judge by my wife's circle -- it's working well (and Italy ain't exactly known for things working well). For that matter, my wife also attended the high school of her choice free of charge, and a world renowned Italian University for $200 per year. Why wouldn't Americans want the same? If they do want it, why are these things being kept from them? Maybe a more pertinent question today is, why are they being encouraged and instructed to fear this kind of progress on the part of their government, which every other advanced nation's government in the world has already long embraced?

Last night's eruption during President Obama's speech was a good example of that last tendency. It reminded me of the famous quotation from Joseph Welch, spoken to Senator Joseph McCarthy, who'd already spent years ruining careers and lives with less than sincere (and far less than accurate) accusations of anti-Americanism.

Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency?, is what Mr. Welch said in 1954. And it precipitated the downfall of a legendary bully (who is now largely regarded as a blowhard).

It would have been interesting if President Obama had responded to Republican Congressman Joseph Wilson's outburst of "You lie!" with those same iconic words. First, it would have been interesting to see whether the Congressman, or others, might have responded; whether the president would have responded once again; and whether this would have resulted in spirited and unscripted debate, thus giving us all a glimpse of what an American version of British Parliament might look like.

But our House of Representatives isn't British Parliament. There have been plenty of times I've wished it was. It would be great to have a forum where questions and criticisms could be shouted out at our elected leaders, thereby compelling them to respond. But we don't have that forum. And, since we don't, Joseph Wilson should have followed some simple rules. You do not shout "You lie!" at the president while he's addressing Congress, and the nation. More crucially, you don't shout "You lie!" at the president when he's stating the irrefutable fact that his health care proposals do not offer coverage to illegal residents of the United States.

Since facts, such as the one I just mentioned, don't seem to hold as much influence as facts used to, let me quote from the health care proposal being prepared for submission to congress:

H.R. 3200: Sec 246 NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

I do not know what makes the language of Sec. 246 so hard to understand, or accept. Since it's right there, visible for anyone to read, I have to suspect that Joseph Wilson either doesn't know it's there, or doesn't care. That he, and the many (many, many) others who are furious about aspects of the proposed health care legislation, simply want to use any emotion, misinformation, slander, or lie to prevent its passage. That's a shame, because a) there are plenty of areas in which to find legitimate fault in the bill, as with many bills, and b) because giving health care insurance to the most people possible is a very good thing to do. That's why every other advanced nation on planet Earth does it -- and most of them have far greater health than we enjoy, and spend much less on keeping it that way.

So why are so many still vehemently opposed? To me, all the arguments against fall apart when inspected with any sense of logic. There's the slander, intimated last night, that the bill covers illegal immigrants. It doesn't. I sometimes wonder whether this misguided argument stems from the fact that the bill would presumably cover the offspring of illegal immigrants, should they be born on United States soil. But those new human beings, if born in the United States, are United States citizens. That's the law. If the complaint is with that law, then the bill's opponents should confront that issue, not the health care bill. (Of course, that would require altering the Constitution of the United States, which grants citizenship rights to anyone born here. The same constitution that conservatives consider perfect, and worthy of protection from "revisionist" judges. I guess that's an inconsistency they still need to work out.)

For the life of me, and not for lack of effort, I can't wrap my mind around the logic of those against aggressive reform -- including a "public option." I posted some thoughts on Facebook late last night and got response after response from people wishing a bill would bring "liability/tort reform," "oversight," or "create incentives," and "level the playing field," all followed by the demand that this not include "big government involvement." I'm sorry, but that doesn't track. All those things require government involvement. At least some opponents seem to want government to provide, without being "involved."

To take it a step further, all those expressed cravings above would be best accomplished by the government offering an optional, only-if-you-want-it, government sponsored insurance option. That's the way to keep insurance companies honest! By offering a competent, comprehensive, affordable, and compassionate alternative they will be forced to match, or else lose customers. Honestly, I think many of those who are opposed have been sold an ideological bill of goods. "Government bad. Oppose it. Even if it's offering something you need."

One concern I can at least understand is that offering lower cost, government sponsored insurance might put insurance companies at an unfair competitive disadvantage, thereby forcing some out of business, and costing people jobs. I can understand the concerns, but the argument doesn't hold up. First, insurance company profits are enormous. There's room for diminishment. Second, we're talking about legislation that would insure forty-five million more people! Insurance companies could easily make up for lowered rates and maintain, or surpass, profits through increased revenue. And, even if the government program "stole" customers away and forced some, or (gasp) all, insurance companies out of business, that would mean the government's insurance entity would have to hire enough workers to accommodate the forty-five million new customers. Workers are going to be needed. Forty-five million new policy holders will create jobs, not eliminate them.

I've heard the impassioned cry that any "public option" will act as a "foot in the door," after which citizens will be forced to use government subsidized insurance, or government provided health care (the latter being an option that's never been proposed). Complaining about having subsidized insurance provided to you sounds to me a bit like complaining about having Social Security or unemployment benefits imposed upon you. But, putting that aside, I really can't see it happening, unless an overwhelming majority of people really like the way things are going. I mean, a military draft couldn't stand up to public opposition. Do you really think government health insurance, if attempted, that wasn't pleasing the people, could survive where a military draft could not?

That still leaves those who just think government screws everything up, and don't want it given any more responsibility or influence over their lives. I can sure understand the sentiment. But is the solution to forever prohibit government from attempting to get better? I'd like to know how many who oppose more "government involvement" home-school their children, take their own garbage to the dump, keep their own reservoirs functioning and safe, repair their own streets, build and operate their own public transportation (or refuse to use it, wherever they go), or VOLUNTARILY OPT OUT OF MEDICARE WHEN THEY REACH 65!!, and send their unemployment and social security checks back out of principled opposition? And I'm not talking about foregoing one or two, folks. You're either on the grid, or you're off. There's no in-between. The reactionary in me wants to say, "Fess up. You suck at the government's tit, then complain when chocolate milk ain't flowing." My emotional side is tired of it.

But, having cleared my spleen of my own frustration, I just encourage you all to look at it another way. Not how the government has failed you to this point, but at what the government might be offering now to improve upon the past. If you don't allow for that opportunity, if you only exist in defensive mode, you could very well be blocking the improvement you're aching for."

Reporting from Sacramento - An Orange County lawmaker who inadvertently broadcast explicit remarks about his sexual conquests over an open microphone during a lull in a Sacramento hearing abruptly resigned from office this afternoon.

Assemblyman Mike Duvall (R- Yorba Linda) stepped down after legislative leaders stripped him of his committee posts this morning and launched an ethics probe of his actions.

"I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly, who are working hard on the very serious problems facing our state," Duvall said in a written statement. "I have come to the conclusion that it would not be fair to my family, my constituents or to my friends on both sides of the aisle to remain in office. Therefore, I have decided to resign my office, effective immediately, so that the Assembly can get back to work."

Legislative leaders had earlier expressed disgust at the comments of Duvall, who was vice chairman of the Utilities and Commerce Committee and a member of the Rules Committee. And at least one Republican Party official had said the lawmaker should consider resigning.

His remarks were caught on videotape during a July hearing of the Assembly Appropriations committee and aired on a KCAL television news report Tuesday night. In the videotape, the married, socially conservative Duvall talks with a colleague in uninhibited detail about his apparent trysts with two women, neither of them his wife.

The KCAL report says one of the women is a lobbyist for a major utility with business before Duvall's committee. In the videotape, Duvall says her birthday is July 6, the same date as a Sacramento lobbyist for the San Diego-based energy firm Sempra.

Sempra officials did not return a call seeking comment.

Visitors to the CREATIVE DIFFERENCES website are greeted by a particularly ugly
out of focus blue plaid background, and an uninspired website that looks
like it was done with an off the shelf flash template. Clicking on "OUR STUFF" generates

is so irritating that it would make Jesus himself curse.

Clicking on "Who we are" brings up a slightly out of focus PDF in which the typefaces are
not crisp.

"Dreams with Sharp Teeth" is a documentary about SciFi writer Harlan Ellison, which
I saw, and which, in my opinion, tries to make Ellison even more psychologically disturbed
than he appears to be in public appearances.

"Viewer Mailbag" starts up a digital recording of a caller using lots of profanity,
and I felt it was irresponsible of them not to warn a casual visitor of their site that
the page autostarts and renders a torrent of profanity.

The whole "CREATIVE DIFFERENCES" website SCREAMS amateurishness, and
an approach to investigation of a topic which, at its least offensive, could be called
"Ambush journalism". It is clear that this group is NOT an objective investigation
group, but instead, starts from an a priori of making an amateurish effort at
debunking. This site, and this production group is an embarrassment to media
producers everywhere.

Best Buy has finally caught up with most people in America and realized it's flat-out embarrassing to be connected to Fox News's Glenn Beck. The electronics corporation, along with many other high-profile companies, pulled their advertising from the controversial show after Beck called President Obama a racist.

Although Best Buy says they never actually advertised during his show, they did contact Fox to ensure their advertising didn't run during his time slot.

Color of Change, an African-American online political organization, has put the pressure on major companies to drop advertising from the show following Beck's remark. (via)

In the latest list of companies dropping Beck, Best Buy is joined by Wal-Mart, CVS, and Travelocity. That brings the full list up to 20 in the last two weeks including ConAgra, GEICO, Men's Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance.

The Health Care Debacle

I watched a video online today by a Chiropractic doctor who was explaining why the medically controlled health care system (which he points out is NOT a health care system, since there is no care for the healthy) is in a mess.

I agree 100 percent with his observation that there is absolutely, positively NO way to fix the system, if you put those who BROKE the system, in charge of fixing it.

The Medical Doctors firstly, do not even understand what is wrong. They think it is normal
to tell people to wait until they are really sick to seek care. They think it is normal for them
to prance around acting like they think they are God's gift to mankind. They also don't
understand that the average patient often doesn't fill the dope prescriptions they write
as their only treatment, because the patient doesn't have the money to fill the script.
The Medical Doctors are so out of touch with patients, that they treat patients as if
they are diseases with legs.

Apparently, Chiropractic Doctors have been stressing proactive, prevention based
care for a century, but the MDs have had such a monopolistic stranglehold on the
medical care in this country, that the DCs have not been able to make changes,
even though, clearly, it is the approach of the Chiropractors that will ultimately
be needed to save our country's health system.

Citing two unidentified sources, the newspaper said Central Intelligence Agency Director Leon Panetta disclosed Cheney's involvement in closed briefings to congressional intelligence committees late last month.
Panetta, who was named to head the agency earlier this year by President Barack Obama, ended the program, which remains secret, when he first learned of its existence from subordinates on June 23, the Times said.
Intelligence and congressional officials told the newspaper the agency began the program after the September 11 attacks and said it never became operational and did not involve CIA interrogation programs or domestic intelligence activities.
The newspaper said its efforts to reach Cheney through relatives and associates were unsuccessful.
Asked about the Times report, CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano said it was not the agency's practice to discuss classified briefings.
"When a CIA unit brought this matter to Director Panetta's attention, it was with the recommendation that it be shared appropriately with Congress. That was also his view, and he took swift, decisive action to put it into effect," Gimigliano said, declining to comment further.
Cheney was a key advocate in the Bush administration of using controversial interrogation methods such as waterboarding on terrorism suspects and has emerged as a leading Republican critic of Obama's national security policies.
Panetta has vowed not to allow coercive interrogation practices, secret prisons or the transfer of terrorist suspects to countries that may use torture, a pledge seen as a break with the agency's policies under President George W. Bush.

She was just about the sexiest lady alive, or that was the popular notion. Like me, Farrah
was from Texas. You know, I can't imagine what it was like to be her back then. All the
women wanted to be like her, and all the men, well , they just wanted to have her.
Her haircut became the haircut du jour for girls. But, as with Michael, all we saw
was the pinup model, the Charlies Angel girl, not the real Farrah.

And, like I said with Michael, the movie star / pinup Farrah, lives on in digital
form, paper form, music, and other media. No, we lost the real Farrah, the
Farrah with imperfections, the one who thought the famous pinup picture
that became the poster posted 'round the world, thought she looked ugly,
and, in that same attractive unsureness of Marilyn Monroe, did not have
that "I'm a 10, and aren't I wonderful."

It was just that genuine smile and down to earth character that made her
all that more attractive and sexy.

Today, I kept hearing women commenting that she kept her great looks
to the end.

And, today, losing Farrah and Michael Jackson, we are again confronted
with our OWN mortality. Even those "of faith" who profess they are sure
there is a heaven waiting for them, must, in their silent , quiet time, when
they are truly, all by themselves, must experience that queasiness that
we all feel when contemplating our own death. Is it just like a candle
going out, or a drop of water being returned to the ocean from a glass,
or are there choirs of angels and long dead relatives waiting, or, for the
less fortunate, a grinning demon leading you to eternal torment.

I hope for Farrah's sake that there is a heaven, and that she was welcomed
with open arms to the bosom of the Lord, because God knows she has
paid her dues in suffering here.

To all her family, friends, fans, and Ryan O'Neal, my heartfelt condolences,
and prayers for healing. God bless you all.

Who was Michael Jackson, and for that Matter, Who Am I, and Who are You?

I didn't personally know , nor understand Michael Jackson. I always felt that when he went from a talented, handsome young black man, to looking like a sad mime of Bette Davis, that he was headed down a bad path. It was said he had vitiligo. We never saw that when he performed as a young boy or a young man. Even if he HAD vitiligo, and had some treatments to even out skin tones, it didn't explain his changed face, especially from the normally broad African American nose, to what I could only say was the nose of an Elf. I am not making fun of him in ANY respect. I felt sad. Michael must have been profoundly unhappy with his looks, his life, or something. I never judged him when the charges of indecency came about (except to think that he really dressed oddly to show up at court).

But, no matter how oddly he dressed, no matter how radically he changed his appearance, no matter how oddly he named his kids or dressed his kids, and no matter he married Elvis' daughter, he still was extremely talented, and love him or hate him, you had to give him that.

But, who WAS Michael Jackson? Well, none of us now will ever really know the real Michael Jackson any more than we will ever know Howard Hughes. All we knew was the character that Mike played on stage (and in The Wiz). In fact, that's all we know of any singer, songwriter, actor, comedian, etc..

We know the person we see all made up with lines fed them, but we don't know the REAL person, because, after all, the REAL person is the person who farts, has irritating habits, is hard to get along with, etc..

When David Carradine died, some yellow journalists dragged out his divorce documents with accusations by his ex-wife. The unfairness of this is that David was not there to defend himself,
so that is the height of cowardice, i.e. to make unfounded allegations about someone who is dead.

I said earlier that Jackson must have been very unhappy. Maybe he was tremendously happy,
but, his actions didn't seem to be those of someone who is content with themselves.

Jackson the songwriter and video POP icon, the King of Pop didn't die. He will stop presenting material that he created after 25 June 2009, but he is still there in the Thriller video, the Billie Jean video, and every other virtual representation of him.

Jackson the flawed, and perhaps, unhappy man died. Jackson the Father died, leaving three small children.

Don't mourn for Jackson the Pop Idol, because, Jackson, the "Man in the Mirror" delivered the goods. He delivered songs and videos that are loved the world over. He did his part to live up to a level of performing that few of us will ever rise to.

No, mourn for Jackson the man, who, according to many, was stressed much of his life, had unreasonable pressure and expectations put on him at a young age. Mourn for Jackson the man in the bubble, beset by photographers, "journalists", and those who felt they had a legal claim against him and needed to sue him.

Well, you won't have Michael Jackson to kick around any more.

RIP, finally, Michael.

When I looked at empty headed goons like Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, and Arnold S...(California's Action Hero Governor), I wondered, WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE HAVE IN COMMON THAT PERHAPS, ENABLED THEM TO BE A GOVERNOR?

thinking about "Ahnold", the "I'll be baaaack" Gubernator, I immediately thought of other governors like Jerry Brown (another mannequin) and Ronald "Where the Fuck is Nancy" Reagan. California apparently likes their governors to either look like a mannequin, be an actor, or both, but the head is either half full or half empty, depending on your state of optimism or pessimism.

Also, apparently, it helps to have platitudes and buzz words like "I support Church attendance", and "This state wants to stand on its own two feet" and crap like that.

So, a while back, someone with a quicker wit than I said, "The public gets the government they deserve" and much as I hate to agree with it, I find I must agree.

And, much as I hate it, Obama is another department store dummy, a black barack mannequin.
I thought he would do what he said, but as with other "Polis" as I call politicians, he is going back
on his promises, and as the economy is going, he is bringing me change, but not in the status quo,

Joe Satriani was one of the founders of the group Deep Purple,
and both Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony did time as band
members of Van Halen (Michael Anthony as basis was there longer
of the two, being there when David Lee Roth did the job as lead vocalist).

For that driving rhythm, the group depends on the great percussion
skills of Chad Smith. Fans of the Red Hot Chili Peppers will recognize
Chad from his drumming with that group.

From what I've heard of their sound, there is a strong Hagar influence,
which is natural with the Red Rocker at the mike.

At any rate, I think the name and symbol is cool, and the group
certainly has promise, with the members having many years
of performing under their belt.

Palin goes into overtime in fight with Letterman

The battle between media heavyweights Gov. Sarah Palin and comedian David Letterman is going into overtime, well beyond the usually allotted 15 minutes of fame.

Appearing this morning on NBC’s “Today” show, the Alaska governor and favorite of the conservative wing of the GOP again demanded that Letterman apologize to women for a joke the television host made about one of her daughters. Those wanting a quick look back, should check out our original post.

Letterman has said that the joke about a Palin daughter getting pregnant by a Yankee baseball player was in poor taste (probably not the first such bad joke Letterman has told and arguably not the most distasteful). Still, Palin contends that the target was her 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who was at Yankee Stadium with her that day. That makes the questionable quip a comment about statutory rape.
It’s “a degrading comment about a young woman,” Palin said this morning. “And I would hope that people would start really rising up and not accepting this.”

“It’s no wonder girls have such low self-esteem in America when a comedian can make a remark like this,” the former vice presidential candidate went on.

Now, in normal circumstances, a slugfest between a talk show host, who is facing his own problems from a new competitor at NBC’s"The Tonight Show," and a former candidate for vice president (this society doesn’t even care about vice presidents when they are in office) would be about as interesting as a healthcare policy debate between athletes on steroids.

But hang in, there are real concerns here.

Palin is a potential presidential candidate who can’t afford to be fighting with anyone in her party, which polls show is about as popular as ants at a July Fourth picnic, according to recent polls. Even worse, none can say who actually speaks for Republicans, fractured into more pieces than taffy dropped from the roof of a building.

The Alaska governor and her allies argued during the campaign that the media were an enemy, so who better to attack than a media icon like Letterman, with a hip (read: liberal) audience.

The big complaint by Palin and others was that the media never took her seriously, in part because she was a woman, and set verbal traps for her. In truth, there were numerous comparisons of her to Tina Fey and much of the reporting dealt with her gaffes in interviews or her use of the winsome wink during her debate with then-Sen., now Vice President Joe Biden.

So fighting a man over a demeaning comment about women makes political sense as well as giving Palin a well-publicized shot at being a mother protecting her young. This is a win-win for all of her constituencies.

The History Channel, ever in the quest to speculate about shit that no one can know, but also, ever ready to play "documentaries" purporting to "debunk" conspiracy theories and UFO sightings, had this idiotic special called LIFE AFTER PEOPLE.
The title pretty much would make you think they would focus on life after people, meaning how lions take over, cockroaches rule, etc.. But, the show focused an inordinately large amount of times NOT on LIFE after people, but crumbling buildings and degenerating infrastructure. Well, even though the "special" was stupid enough, someone at the SHITORY, er...HISTORY channel, decided, "We gotta have more of this..."
and so they have made a regular series of random speculations of what would happen to things like concrete, bridges, the Constitution, and on and on ad nauseum, if, "shudder" people were to disappear (as if that were a bad thing).

I happened on the original Shockumentary, and its little baby serial offspring, because, I actually do watch the History channel for MonsterQuest and UFO Hunters (the best shows they have). The question that kept burning into my brain, amid Computer Generated visions of crumbling concrete and overgrown highways, is the obvious..." WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT THIS?".

I mean, perhaps Cockroaches would watch the show as SCI FI fantasy, but since humans are unfortunately still around, they would have to dodge the errant house shoe being thrown at them.

It's always tempting to dismiss Bill O'Reilly as just another self-serving pundit, albeit a particularly loud one. But then one remembers that the FOX news channel consistently defeats all other 24 hour news networks, and that more people get their information from FOX news than any other televised source. The ratings war between the 24 hour news networks constantly devolves into finger pointing and self-elevating posturing by all parties involved, which is soul crushingly depressing when you know how little is being reported compared to how much should be reported. Even the news networks I find slightly less offensive than FOX have no hesitation in trumpeting their own perceived achievements in journalism. Of course, when the best compliment you can give a network is, "Well, at least they try...", then you know things have gotten grim.

Anyway, Bill recently attacked CNN for what he perceived was not enough coverage of the politically charged murder of Private William Long. Bill shouting accusations at everyone isn't anything new, but it's quite "rare" (In Bill's own words), that anyone ever compiles such a mountain of evidence to the contrary. Even Bill himself had to admit that he had spoken out of line, although he opted to ignore any pretenses of class and professionalism when doing so.

Earlier, I found myself saddened to report that film legend David Carradine had apparently committed suicide at age 72, and now I have to report that Blues Legend, Koko Taylor, one of my blues favorites, with tunes such as Wang Dang Doodle, has passed at age 80.

DAVID CARRADINE - DEAD AT 72- FOUND HANGING IN BANGKOK - RIP DAVID

I'm kinda bummed today. I didn't know David (born John Arthur Carradine, December 8, 1936) personally, but a friend of mine met him once
on a mutual friend's ranch in California and told me he was a really nice, down to earth guy.
Regardless of whether he was a nice guy in person or not, I enjoyed his acting.

Since I was in martial arts, I can recall what a shot in the arm that the Kung Fu TV series
was, and how martial arts schools around the country saw their business get better because
of that show. The bad part was the show was written with Bruce Lee in mind, but the
racist TV execs didn't hire Bruce, because they thought having an Asian start would
kill the ratings, especially in the South.

David was apparently found hanging in a hotel in Bangkok, at this point, it is being
ruled a suicide. I don't know what drove David to do this, if he did.

I have always championed the right of each person to decide when his life is no longer
worth living, but, I do wish he had lived longer. He was 72 years old, but he continued
working, and was in hit films like Kill Bill.

It seems like all the icons from the 1970s are dying.

I will miss you David. I wish I could have met you in person before you passed.
To the Carradine family, to his friends and loved ones, I send my deepest
condolences and do want to say thanks for all the movies and television shows
that David was in.

Torture by Any Other Name Smells as Foul

Some IDIOTS on the right , or more properly, idiot right wing of the GOP have volunteered

That misses the whole point. If I was a guerilla and hated the US and captured a citizen,

began pulling the trigger, with the barrel up against that person's head, that certainly

did such physical damage that it would permanently cripple someone or interfere with

the part that makes it torture the most, and that is the fact that you are helpless in the hands of someone who may actually go too far and really kill you. Now, these idiots that volunteer, KNOW that they will not be killed. This does not have the same effect on a person.

As I noted on a previous post, the term "enhanced interrogation" was born in the 1930s in Nazi Germany. The SS did "enhanced interrogation".

If you look back on the Inquisition, they looked at the fact that the Church would not allow them to spill blood as if they were not doing anything that wrong. In fact, the Grand Inquisitors felt they were doing "God's Work". Hitler was not ashamed of "The Final Solution" in which millions of Jews were slaughtered. As I am half Jew, I can tell you, not only did Hitler, Goebbels and the rest do a lot of criminal acts for which they should roast in Hades, but Bush, Cheney, and many of his buddies should receive criminal punishment as well.

We know that Cheney and Gonzales (or is it with a "Z" on the end), have been indicted in McAllen Texas for crimes (or are they "alleged crimes" like if Hitler were alive, we would have to say he did "alleged crimes" since he was only convicted in the court of popular opinion, or so says that asshole leader of Iran).

BUSH'S TERM "ENHANCED INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES" ARE NAZI IN ORIGIN

I had known that the term "enhanced interrogation" was a Nazi code word for torture for some time, but hadn't blogged on it, and so today, I decided to bring it out more.

" The phrase "Verschärfte Vernehmung" is German for "enhanced interrogation". Other translations include "intensified interrogation" or "sharpened interrogation". The Bush administration authorized the use of waterboarding, sleep and food deprivation and forced nudity as it sought information after the September 11 attacks.

The CIA said the two memos Cheney asked to be made public were relevant to pending litigation.

"For that reason -- and that reason only -- CIA did not accept Mr. Cheney's request for a Mandatory Declassification Review," Paul Gimigliano, CIA spokesman, said."

Google unfortunately closed their Google Video to further uploads (I say unfortunately because I loved Google Video), but now there are rumors on the Net that they will be phasing out the kinds of videos we are used to, i.e. viewer generated videos, in favor of some other, prepackaged crap.

Look, YouTube is Number two, instead of number 60 because people want the kinds of videos that Google offers. Hulu is simply not pulling down big numbers because people don't want second rated TV shows from NBC on their computer. It's BORING.

Music videos, "Worst American Idol Auditions", and the like, are the stuff that pulls people to YouTube, as well as it being the ultimate "bully pulpit" for John Q. Public. Now, I am aware that YouTube is a tremendously expensive enterprise. If the business model for YouTube does not allow it to be profitable, then I could understand Google saying "We're closing YouTube".

No matter how important a vehicle of expression YouTube is, if it is a constant loss for Google,
then shut the doors, OR decide that it is so important that you will keep it going no matter if it loses money or not, similar to what Ted Turner did with CNN, which lost money year after year.

But, it will be a big mistake to turn YouTube into a showcase for second rate television shows or B movies. Our televisions are jammed up with 150 channels of flotsam and jetsum of failed projects or TV shows that were losers, or glorified infomercials.

So, as a YouTube viewer and contributor, I say either run it as a public charity and write it off,
find another way to "monetize" it (but not by making visitors pay to watch), or shutter the virtual doors.

But, we don't need ANOTHER waste of bandwidth like Hulu for god sakes.

Legalize marijuana? Schwarzenegger says let's debate it...

The Christian Science Monitor reports that Governor Schwarzenegger says it is time to debate the legalization of pot. Except for the movie Predator, this is one of the few things he and I can get together on. Now, I have never used pot, and never shall. I don't even smoke so-called "regular" cigarettes, nor drink alcohol. But, from the perspective of the safety of substances that one can ingest, I would suggest that there are fewer lost lives from Marijuana ingestion than lives lost as a result of someone drinking booze or smoking regular cigarettes, or for that matter, chewing tobacco, or even using prescribed medications.

Now, most people who have been exposed to the debate about legalizing pot will already have heard the more common reasons. They talk about the taxes that could be collected, they talk about the many uses of hemp in making clothes, paper, rope, etc. , and these are all very real
benefits, in addition to one of the most clear benefits, that is, its ability to decrease nausea and stimulate the appetite in patients with cancer who are undergoing chemotherapy.

Also, folks on pot are usually not out driving cars, causing deaths as a result of impaired driving.
They are usually not out in bars, getting in fights, or searching for victims. If anything, pot usually makes folks more docile, and even, makes them consume more food, a boost to the economy.

Pot though, is not without any down side. There are health risks associated with chronic pot use, and some claim that it does affect people's short term memory and robs them of motivation.

In my mind though, one of the biggest benefits to "The State" , meaning the government writ large, not just sunny California, is the savings from not spending millions of dollars searching for folks using pot, prosecuting them, and locking them up. It truly is a victimless crime, a malum prohibitum, NOT a malum en se.

With our country in such an economic mess, the LAST thing we need to worry about, is locking up some 21 year old college kid for taking a toke. It's time to grow up America .

that ANYONE would suggest that is is "politically unthinkable" to punish bastards with the stench of decaying blood on their virtual hands. If the attorney advising the President on matters regarding torture said that there would be nothing wrong with a US service person,
CIA operative, or other person, CRUSHING THE TESTICLES OF THE CHILD OF A PERSON BEING INTERROGATED WITH PLIERS (John Yoo publicly argued there is no law that could prevent the President from ordering the torture of a child of a suspect in custody – including by crushing that child’s testicles.) and people like Cheney suggest that even to discuss what we as a country did to people, somehow "RUINS IT" , as Jon Stewart properly noted, as if the torture was a magic trick, then there are people who need to be investigated, and if found guilty, they need to receive the fullest extent of punishment possible.

In Nuremburg, people found guilty of war crimes against humanity, received the death penalty,
and if members of the administration were guilty of heinous war crimes, then they TOO should receive the same punishment as the Nazi war criminals.

I hope Spain goes forward and indicts Cheney and his butt buddies. Dick Cheney andAlberto Gonzales have already been indicted for their part in things in South Texas.

There is NOTHING politically unthinkable about going after these bastards. Either we ARE
a "nation of laws" as they are always saying, or we are not. If we are NOT , be up front and quit handing out speeding tickets. I believe it's in my genes, being part Native American, part German, and part Hebrew/Jew.
All these gene pools are used to fighting, and all can claim excellent fighting skills, in physical confrontations, intellectual debate, and legal confrontations. It is no accident that many
lawyers have either German or Jewish extraction.

I learned as a kid that fighting is part of life. I can recall as a little kid, another kid who had been trained in boxing, asked if I wanted to box him. I had never boxed, never been in ANY physical confrontation. In my usual manner, I said, ok, fine. With the other kids watching, he shot out a straight jab that caught me straight on the nose. My eyes started tearing and it hurt, and even
now my nose is not 100 percent straight from that early encounter, but I learned one thing.

A coward dies a thousand deaths, a brave man only one. If you are going to fight, you have
to be committed to the fight, BUT you have to know what the hell you are doing as well.
Brave men and women who were not lucky, and perhaps not trained well, occupy graves throughout the world. Of the two factors listed, luck and training, luck is perhaps the best to have on your side.

Today, around the world, governments, the "Great Oppressors" as I call them (I am a philosophical anarchist at heart) are passing laws, going after folks filesharing, and doing all manner of wrong. And, unfortunately, even though most citizens would agree these actions are wrong, are sitting on their hands and leaning back on their thumbs.

When a government, state, local, or federal (read here "national) is bent on screwing people,
how can people (read here "citizens") sit there and let it happen ? Governments are like rust in that they go on their merry way, day by day, eating away at your freedoms and liberties.
If you don't understand that, you don't understand the workings of government. The Bill of Rights may say some high-falooting things that make you think this gov is all about liberty,
but then they go about, day after day after day, passing statutes, laws, rules, etc., that nibble away at your rights and liberty with every passage of every insidious little dagger at the heart of freedom.

And, Joe Q. Public just sits there, hunkers down, hoping he will not be targetted for some artificial wrongdoing, and does the okey doke.

In essence this is the same as letting the playground bully push you in line or pull at your hair in class or demand you pony up your lunch money. Hiding is not a winning political strategy.

OK...let's say I told you a story about a school that did a strip search of a 13 year old girl, forcing her to reveal her breasts and genitals to TWO adult school officials, and did so all because someone alleged she had an IBUPROFEN, a mild over the counter pain reliever you can get off the shelves at WalMart, on her. NUTS, right?

Now, let's take it even farther. Let's carry this case to the Supreme Court, and have TWO (2) Supreme Court, male conservative judges, defend this action, not sure that anything was done improperly. And, let's say that the parents of the abused child cannot sue the school officials.

Reporting from Washington -- The Supreme Court gave a skeptical hearing today to lawyers who were urging a rule against strip searching students at school.

Instead, most of the justices voiced concern that students could hide dangerous drugs such as crack cocaine or heroin in their clothes.

The case before the court concerns a 13-year-old Arizona girl who was strip searched in a nurse's office after a school friend said the girl, Savana Redding, had brought white pills to school. The pills were extra-strength ibuprofen, which is commonly taken for headaches and cramps.

Last year, a U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the strip search of Savana Redding was unreasonable and unconstitutional since the pills were ibuprofen. And the court held that the school officials who ordered the search were liable for damages.

But in their comments and questions, most of the justices signaled they are inclined to overturn that decision.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said the school officials should be shielded from being sued since the law governing school searches had not been clear. In the past, the court has said public officials cannot be held liable for damages unless they violate a "clearly established" right.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, though a swing vote on many issues, has voted regularly to give police and school officials greater leeway to search for drugs.

He objected when Adam Wolf, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer for Redding, argued that the strip search was unreasonable because there was no evidence she was hiding anything in her underwear.

"Is the nature of drug irrelevant?" he asked. "What if it was meth to be consumed at noon?"

Wolf insisted that, even in this instance, school officials would not have reasonable grounds for strip searching a 13-year-old honors student. There was no reason to think she had pills in her underwear, he said.

That reply did not appear to persuade Justice Stephen G. Breyer. It is "a logical thing" for adolescents to hide things, he said. A student might stick something "in their underwear," he added, provoking laughter when he said that this had happened to him at school. "It's not beyond human experience."

For a moment, Justice David H. Souter tried to put himself in the mind of the vice principal who ordered the strip search of Savana Redding. The year before, a middle-school student had become violently ill after taking mysterious pills at school. The official may have feared a repeat.

"Better embarrassment [of one student] than the risk of violent sickness and death," Souter said.

A lawyer for the Safford Unified School District urged the justices to rule that school officials have broad authority to search students. The vice principal in this case had been told some students had pills, and they were to be passed around at lunchtime. Based on that report, "he was entitled to search any place where contraband might reasonably be found," said Matthew Wright, district's lawyer.

What about a "body cavity search?" asked Justice Antonin Scalia.

Wright replied that no school official would undertake such a search, but he insisted it would be legal.

Wolf, the ACLU lawyer, said it would "send shudders down the spine" of children across the nation if the high court approves strip searches at school.

A Justice Department lawyer urged the justices to say that strip searches are out of bounds unless officials have strong, clear evidence that a student is hiding something dangerous in his or her underwear.

The tone of the argument gave little hint the justices will set such a limit, however.

A ruling in the case of Safford School District vs. Redding will be issued by late June."

Stevens’s defense? Ignorance. He and his wife, Catherine, simply forgot to follow up about that small matter of the bill for all that work, Stevens testified. That massage chair that cost a couple grand and was in his home for over eight years? That was a “loan” Stevens said. The Viking gas grill? He had never used it, because it was “dangerous.” With more than thirty-five years in the Senate and as a former prosecutor himself, Stevens was plenty familiar with the disclosure standards of federal office.

Perhaps more important, though they only garnered national attention last summer, the case against Stevens is part of a long-running, messy investigation into the shady dealings of Alaska’s political class. In the last two years, five Alaska state legislators have been indicted or convicted on bribery and corruption charges related to quid pro quo dealings with VECO. Stevens, his son Ben, and the state’s lone representative, Don Young, have long been the focus of FBI attention.

Last year Alaska received the most of any state in federal earmarks per capita. Many of those earmarks were secured by Stevens, who, as his trial revealed, was in the midst of a number of shady dealings with people with stakes in the oil industry. The huge amount of national taxpayer money sent to Alaska each year makes Stevens dirty politics not just the concern of citizens of Alaska, but the American people—the true victims of the prosecution’s bungled case. Maybe if the media spent a little bit more time becoming familiar with the man Alaskans call “Uncle Ted” they might see that the prosecution did indeed “screw” someone—but it wasn’t Stevens."

Out of all the people on the planet, there are three people I hate. Now, there are lots more I dislike, more I despise, but only three that I can actually , without equivocation, say I hate. These three are Penn Jillette, Nancy Grace, and Ann Coulter. For those keeping count , that's a COCKSUCKER, A CUNT, AND A "CAN'T TELL WHAT IT IS", since, Ann Coulter, with such a big Adam's apple, some say is a man, some say is a transsexual, some say is a transvestite, and some say it is half man/half woman (hermaphrodite).

Study Claims Chinese Cyber Spies Control, Steal Data From Foreign Governments

"Toronto, Canada (AHN) - China's cyber espionage operation has been stealing sensitive information from government office computers in 103 countries, according to Canadian researchers.

A team of researchers at the University of Toronto has found that China's GhostNet system had sent e-mails containing malware to target computers. The malware prompts the infected computer to download a Trojan program called ghost RAT, which allow attackers to control the computers and bring its data to servers in mainland China.

"Our investigation reveals that GhostNet is capable of taking full control of infected computers, including searching and downloading specific files, and covertly operating attached devices, including microphones and web cameras," Canada.com quoted the researchers as saying in their report entitled "Tracking GhostNet: Investigating a Cyber Espionage Network."

"Up to 30 per cent of the infected hosts are considered high-value targets and include computers located at ministries of foreign affairs, embassies, international organizations, news media, and NGOs," according to the report published Saturday in the Information Warfare Monitor and available online.

Among the compromised computers are those in the private office of the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Government in Exile in India. The Dalai Lamai, Tibet's spiritual leader , campaigning for the independence of his homeland from Chinese rule.

The GhostNet was discovered while the Canadian researchers were doing a case study on Chinese spying on Tibetan institutions.

The report's authors, including Ron Deibert, director of the Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto's Munk Centre, told Canada.com that there is no evidence the spies were working for the Chinese government."

I need to preface this post by saying that I have never smoked ANYTHING, don't drink alcohol, and don't take ANY recreational drugs. The only conscious altering meds I have ever had was nitrous oxide during a root canal, and versed during oral surgery, both administered by a doctor (a DDS in the first, and an MD, DDS in the second).

I have no horse in the race over legalization or decriminalization of weed, except that I have the same stake in it that every citizen has, and that is, the idiocracy
running this "war on drugs" is serving to increase crime and bankrupt the nation.

Prohibition, aka "The Volstead Act" and the constitutional amendment that established a law forbidding the manufacture, sale, and distribution of booze, did not work, and was repealed by another constitutional amendment.

What did Prohibition of Alcohol accomplish? Well, it generated giant numbers of criminals. It took basically localized crime organizations in New York and Chicago,
and turned them into extremely successful national organizations.

So, generally, alcohol manufacture, distribution, and consumption by adults within the United States is legal. The legalization allowed many changes. It decreased the number of criminals in the US overnight. It decreased the amount of money and law enforcement time wasted on prosecuting these cases, and generated tax money.

Now, if you were to compare the societal impact of consumption of EtOH (potable alcohol) with the use of marijuana (smoked, consumed in brownies, etc) the outcomes from use or abuse of these drugs is almost exactly the opposite on many counts.
For many, overconsumption of alcohol leads to aggressive, event violent behavior aimed at spouses, kids, or other folks. Folks who drink booze, for some reason, believe they are not impaired too much and insist on driving. Drunk driving annually deprives our nation of many good people. Drunk men and women often engage in unprotected sex, increasing the number of unplanned pregnancies and transmission of STDs. Folks who drink alcohol too much, can destroy their liver, leading to a need for a transplant or death from cirrhosis of the liver. Folks who drink too much can sometimes not eat enough, leading to severe dietary deficiencies and even brain damage. Folks who are very drunk can often hurt themselves severely and not know it, and can fall due to disturbed balance and do brain damage.

Delirium tremens is a condition that requires people with a long history of heavy drinking to undertake an alcohol detoxification regimen.

When President Obama did his Open for Questions deal, the NUMBER ONE QUESTION was about legalization of marijuana. If there are millions of votes from Americans, and hundreds of thousands submitting questions, and the number one question was essentially asking for legalization of pot, to give that question, and those people, the back of your hand and dismiss the question as if it had no validity, is to be an asshole.

I didn't vote in the last election, so I didn't vote for Obama. I probably would have voted for Ron Paul, but, as an anarchist, it is a contradiction in terms for me to vote in my opinion. I have only voted ONCE, and that was my vote against King George the Cowardly, cast from the place he lived for a while, Austin Texas.

The bastard stole that election, and though the majority of people clearly voted for Gore and sided with me, the system DID NOT WORK THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

So, again, this is NOT a democracy, so I guess it doesn't matter what the majority of people want. The majority did NOT want this bailout of AIG and the TARP mess.

If I were going to be a party affiliate, it would first be Libertarian, and then Democratic, but, I probably would never vote for Obama, because, he is going against the very people who put him where he is now.

Obama must learn that if he is to be more than a one term trick pony, listening to, and working the will of your electorate, is a make or break point.

JON STEWART VS. JIM CRAMER - REDUX

Tonight, the Comedy Channel, replayed the Jon Stewart vs. Jim Cramer episode, and it keeps getting better every time I see it. Most days, I watch The Daily Show, because, for satire and comedy, to me, it just doesn't get better than Jon Stewart. But tonight, Stewart transcended funny faces and schtick. No, tonight Jon was Howard Beale from Network, screaming "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not gonna take it any more". Stewart was Zorro, Batman, The Masked Avenger, The Punisher, and so many more, righting wrongs and speaking truth to power. He wasn't there for a garden party. Stewart was kicking ass and taking names. He had the clips from TheStreet.com, and every time Cramer would wriggle and slither and try to get away, Jon nailed him to the floor and spit on him.

No double talk could save that raving cueball. Stewart was channeling Edward R. Murrow. He was Casey-at-the-Bat, but he didn't strike out. Jon Stewart hit a home run.

The game ended ... Stewart 9, Cramer 0.
Next, the FBI needs to look at what Cramer was confessing he did on the videotape, and see if there are indictments that need to come down with Cramer's name on them.
